Does anyone have cut proof gloves that really work?

For Chanukah/Christmas/Winter Solstic/Whatever, my wife got me a mandoline slicer. Boy is that blade sharp! Last night was the first time I used it. I sliced a couple of potatoes. They zipped through as if they were just sliding along. Fortunately, I have a pair of cut proof gloves I bought when I got the meat slicer. Unfortunately, they aren’t entirely cut proof. One finger now has a nice little hole in the tip. Luckily, the mandoline only sliced glove and missed my finger.

Given the hole in the fingertip, these gloves are not up to the challenge of the mandoline. Does anyone have any gloves that are?

I sent an email just now to my contact at Grill Armor (they make really nice heat-resistant and waterproof heat-resistant gloves) to see if he has any, or has plans for any, cut-proof gloves.

Update, they do not. I bet I put the bug in his ear though!

Chain mail is usually the next upgrade. Something like this should work:

Schwer Highest Level Cut Resistant Stainless Steel Metal Mesh Chainmail Glove Butcher Glove for Meat Cutting Food Processing Knife Sharpening Oyster Shucking Kitchen Mandoline Slicing Fish Fillet(L) https://a.co/d/cl3CBML

Good choice. Don’t be swayed by slightly cheaper ones that are not chainmail but instead steel mesh. There is a difference.

    Definitely stainless mesh.

Your not suppose to whittle on your fingers. Make's a mess, especially if you take blood thinners.

Have a few pair that a friend who’s a surgeon gave me that are supposedly very cut resistant but I haven’t tried them yet.

          I’ve been happy with these:

NoCry Premium Cut Resistant Gloves Food Grade — Level 5 Protection; Ambidextrous; Machine Washable; Superior Comfort and Dexterity; Lightweight; Complimentary eBook - Amazon.com

I’ve caught them on the mandolin blade a few times but no cut-throughs yet (knock on wood).

Keep your fingers away from the sharp parts? :-)

Well…..after my mishap last year - 364 days from today (when I whacked the tip of my thumb off with a knife)……I looked a lot into different options. Chain mail seemed to be a nice option, but I never ended up buying anything.

I’ll see if I can find the thread I started asking for some of the same info and link it in for you.

Does your mandolin come with a holder?

Yes, it comes with a holder. But be realistic, am I really going to use the holder until I've chopped off a chunk of finger?

Draznnl - that’s the only way I use my mandolin - and this was before I sliced a nickel sized chuck of my thumb off last year.

I haven’t used or bought gloves like that, but after slicing off part of my fingers (plural) I have actually started using that plastic “grip” accessory that comes with the mandolin, so at least there’s something between my hands and the blade. Feels a lot safer, and I haven’t cut myself since.

Same. And I'm willing to toss the last nub of what I'm slicing rather than take chances on the last bit.

I bought the chain mail type of gloves after losing the tip of a finger - they work well and I use them with my deli meat slicer too.

My grandma always said if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything.

"Gee, when I use the holder, I don't slice my fingers off".
              Duh.

              Sorry grandma.

NoCry Cut Resistant Work Gloves. They are in Amazon $14.99/pr.
They are washable. My wife puts them in the dishwasher, then hang dry.

I just wear nylon disposable gloves over mine. No mess, no cleanup, and protection!
