I want a spice grinder. I plan to primarily grind peppercorns. I really want a fine grind. Can anyone recommend a good on?

I look forward to some good answers too. I usually buy the ones from the supermarkets that are all-in-one peppercorns in their own plastic grinder. I've had my eye on some battery operated S&P grinders from Maverick.

I had the same one...and used it for years...and then one day the blade exploded. Little bits o' metal throughout the grind. Now granted it was used a lot.
I would have no reservations about recommending one...just be sure to check the blades periodically.

Danjohnston949 I have noticed that several of your recent post attachments come up "null" when I try to view on Windows 8 or iPad. Out of curiosity what file type are they and what computer operating system? Perhaps this info will help the admins try to figure this out.

FWIW, I also use the Krups grinder that Danjohnston949 mentioned and it is great for rubs like S&G and MHMD, both of which are ground very fine. It can be difficult to control coarseness though ... which is why the above grinder looks interesting.Last edited by MBMorgan; March 26, 2016, 04:34 PM.

I also have the Krups grinder, and chose it several years ago because at that time it was the top rated grinder by Cooks Illustrated. When grinding peppercorns it does fine, though I'm often going for a coarse grind and end up with a variety of different sized pieces in the final product. Since you're looking for a fine grind I think you could just keep running the grinder a bit longer and eventually end up with finely ground pepper.

I recently got a Mr Coffee one and love it. It grinds great. I like that it comes apart and I can drop it in the dishwasher. I got primarily to grind the Old Thompson peppercorns that I like. Oh, and it was cheap too.

If you have an Oster blender with the blend and store jars, you can use it with one of the jars much as you would a coffee grinder. Much like Strat50, I use a molcajete for blending wet and dry in many cases. If you just want coarse pepper, you can crush the corns between two skillets; cast iron works bestLast edited by gcdmd; April 4, 2016, 10:55 AM.
