25 Head-Scratching Photos Of Once-Popular Kitchen Tools That Basically Disappeared Over The Past 50 Years (yahoo.com)

    #2
I am fairly sure we had a hand-crank mixer at one point growing up. I ran across a toaster from the 50s several months back. I would have bought it if it actually worked. The other problem is that today’s bread slices wouldn’t have fit or cooked properly. I am sure for 58limited this is probably more of a
challenge to find something he doesn’t have already!

I have 14 or 15 of those items, different versions than pictured but the same things.

I have one Toast-O-Lator from the 1940s and two Sunbeam toasters: A T-9 from the 1930s and automatic from the 1940s. Modern bread fits all perfectly.

Of the other things pictured I also have: a nut grinder, Daizy Juicer, Farberware Food Processor, cookie gun (it was my mom's - I don't use it), 1957 Sunbeam Mixer (but I use a modern KitchenAid now - more powerful), a couple of hand mixers, an old meat market scale, an egg poacher, wall mount can opener, Sunbeam vacuum coffee maker (makes some of the best coffee ever), a newer version of the coffee mill pictured that I bought in Holland in the early 1990s (same picture on the front), and a 5 head Malt Mixer. My 1950 O'Keefe & Merritt stove has a baking scale on the backsplash and imprinted on the inside of the oven door.

      The Toast-O-Lator is really cool:

While I may not be as wise as many of you, we had a lot of those things growing up as we were poor enough most of our stuff like that came from garage sales, members of the church, or my grandparents. I DO miss the wall mounted can opener, hand beater, and our coffee grinder was manual.

That’s my childhood you just posted. I don’t remember a nut grinder, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t one. Most of the others, I grew up with.

My mom had the #15 and#16 nut choppers. I have the modern version of the #20 hard boiled egg maker which works perfect every time. About $19 on Amazon.

Heh, I have some very early memories of that Mary Proctor toaster. Wow. And yes, that metal nut grinder? We had that, too....I remember playing with it a lot for some reason.

My hometown had the Proctor and then the Proctor-Silex factory so everyone seemed to have their products in their homes. Each year one of our school trips was touring the factory.

As a child I used a hand mixer and wall mount can opener. And I have a distinct memory of an oven with the pull out timer sheet…but I don’t recall who had it or where it was. I’m guessing a family friend I visited with my grandparents.
