Please school me on Paprika (the app, not the spice).

I just bought the Android app and the Windows desktop app based on this thread. It's absolutely worth it. What I've been doing with Chrome and three different Keep lists is now going to be in one really convenient place with some excellent bells and whistles. Thanks for the recommendation!
Now begins the process of moving the contents of my "Recipes" bookmark folder into Paprika. That should only take a week, maybe two.Last edited by PGH_RAM; January 10, 2024, 05:38 PM.

So, I just read through the thread and unfortunately none of these wonderful answers are written in crayon, so I’m still a bit uncertain as to what I need. I would like to just have the app on my iPad. There is a paprika 3 in the App Store for $4.99. Is this all I need, or is there more that I need to download? If I wanted to have it on my android phone also, is that a separate purchase?
$4.99 seems like a fairly modest price that waiting for a sale isn’t necessary.
I feel like I must be missing something

That’s the one. I have never needed the app on my laptop. If I need a recipe in the kitchen, I use my iPad and a tablet stand. However, I don’t use any of the organizing and planning features; if you do, then the laptop app might be better for those.
Even when it’s on sale, it’s $2.99 instead of $4.99.

I liked it so much I paid for it for my and my wife's Android phones ($2.99 each) and for my Windows laptop (caught a sales for $24.99). I have all three devices using the same account so we can have access to the same recipes and share grocery lists. Totally worth it as I do most of my recipe research and grocery planning on my laptop, but use my phone when actually cooking.

The purchase on the iOS store does not translate to a purchase in the Google Play store for Android (or whatever Android store you use). You have to buy it once per platform (Windows, Mac, iOS or Android). You will need to buy the iOS version for your iPad, and the Android version from whatever app store you use over there.
I bought it in the iOS store, and it is on my phone, my wife's phone, and the iPad. I also have it on Mac and Windows, and the syncing has my recipes on ALL devices.

You are correct, you only need the iPad $4.99 Paprika 3 app to use all of the features everyone has described. If you would also like to use it on your Android phone you would also need to buy that version from the Play Store. You would still be able to “share” the same recipe library and all ratings, menus, etc. between them.

Purchased iOS version based on this thread. I have a 3 inch binder of printed recipes plus lots of bookmarked recipes and recipe books put together by family and friends.

Before you go about photographing them, and pasting them into Paprika, it’s a good idea to search the web. A huge percentage of older recipes, and especially old family recipes, are from the backs of cans, boxes, and packages. And most other old recipes have been passed around, and you can find them on the internet. I was recently given a dozen printed sheets of recipes, and instead of doing the photographs I found every single one online, some in several places and exactly the same.

One shortcut you probably already know is if you line up the page image in your iOS device’s camera and use the text button to capture it you can then select and copy the text into your Paprika recipe. You might have to do a little editing to get the copied text into the ingredients and directions sections but it can save a lot of typing.

99% of the recipes in the three ring binder are from websites so I can just go back to the website and download the recipes.
I have found a couple of times that the download didn’t copy all of the recipe text, had to go back to copy/paste the missing parts.
Overall looks like a great app. Especially like that you pay for a license and aren’t constantly getting nagged about paying more for unlocking features.
