Weber MT Kettle, SnS, DnG, Easy Spin Stainless Steel Grate, Elevated SnS SS Cooking Grate, Vortex, Cajun Bandit Rotisserie, Oklahoma Joe Bronco, OKJ Bronco Triple Grate, Mini Weber Kettle ashtray Maverick XR-50, TimeStick Trio
This is a real threat. I threw out my wire brushes years ago. I have tried the wooden scrapers, the looped wire brushes, a slotted metal scrapper, an onion, etc. to replace the wire brushes. Still looking for that one tool that will be acceptable to me. Never tried the Grillbot !

if you haven’t read about it, the Grill Rescue does a nice job cleaning grates. A few on here have one and have posted on it if you are interested in reading more.

I tried Grill Rescue, it's better on the round grates. Grill Grates still don't get clean in the valleys unless i am doing something wrong.
-
captainlee i have round grates. But I also have one of the circular/looped wire brushes that I use as well.
-
They have a brush head for the Grill Grates - it is more expensive, but looks like it would work. I'd like to try the basic one, I'm just having trouble dropping $50 on a plastic handle and a kevlar-covered sponge....

I’ve read about this for years. I have no idea why it has taken me this long to react to all the warnings. Thanks to y’all I just walked outside and threw the old brass brush scraper away and ordered a new one with the looped wires. You may well have saved some serious grief. Thank you.

This has been in medical literature for about ten years or so, as a rare but occasional problem hard to diagnose. I quit using the wire brushes, although they were very effective and this is an only occasional occurrance, but who wants to push their luck? I've tried the lava spongey looking things - nope. I prefer scrubbing the grates when still hot, it's easier, so I've also been using the wadded up foil. Never heard of Grill Bot or Grill Rescue, might need to look into, although I like the simpler choices.

Grilla Grills Chimp
W.C. Bradley & Co. Char Kettle CK-115 ~1980s Vintage Grill (inactive)
I'm just such a low risk person that I threw away my first grill brush after only a few uses. Curiously, I have yet to find a better tool than a crumbled up big ball of heavy-duty aluminum foil....and as I usually am using foil somewhere in my cook, I'm not wasting anything.

Still a big fan of my Grill Rescue.
Overall, I'd highly recommend the Grill Rescue Brush. I think it is the best cleaning device I've ever had. This one is for you Huskee . The brush is dishwasher safe for 100 uses per head, uses steam to clean, no wires, and leaves no residue on your smoker. For background, I've used scrubby wipes (disintegrate after 2-3

Weber sells RED 'wire' brushes, with the idea being that the red color will stick out more than the silver bristles will.
Still, always a good reminder to work diligently to keep your grill grates clea

This would not work for those of us that have defective color vision since my reds blend in very well with rust. I can see red but it is way down from what normal vision folks see.
While in boot camp I was offered the chance to qualify for the NavCad (Naval Aviation) program and later, on my ship, a chance to go to Annapolis. Both offers were rescinded as soon as they found out I was color defective...

Ok. I'm throwing my wire brushes away. I've known about this forever but just haven't found a decent replacement. I think I may try the grill rescue thing. <sigh> More money on high dollar gadgets...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I think the solution is quite clear: immediately after the cook while the grate is still hot is the time to use a steamer metal grate brush. Then, prior to the next cook hose down and wipe dry the grate. Been doing this for safely decades.
