    Meat slicers?

I seem to see these a good bit on FB Marketplace, but I think most of them are crap.

I have one given to me years go - but it had no name brand, no model number, no markings of any kind and worst of all - I could not disassemble it! I tried many ways, spent hours trying to get into the thing so I could pull off panels to properly clean it, as obviously you need to get it clean after use - and never could figure it out. Eventually tossed it.

Now I'm wondering again if I should get one... thinking I want a slicer and a grinder.

I found this General GSE112 12" blade version meat slicer, one of them is on FB for $120. The plate on it says it was made in 2014. I was thinking of offering $100 for it.

Is this one a good brand, model, some specific complaints or things I should be looking for in a meat slicer? I'm open to options.

Should I keep looking? I see a number of Hobart ones for sale, but they're all $300-800 or more - not willing to invest that kind of money right now. I'd say the $100 or so is about as much as I want to put into this little project.

If you're interested in, and have the room for a commercial meat slicer look around for an old Hobart or Globe that needs some work. A buddy gave me an old Hobart 1216 with the slides and carriage frozen, but with a sound motor (I think that is essential). I found a great online parts store who gave me some fantastic advice on how to restore it. $250 bucks worth of parts and a little elbow grease later I have a very nice meat slicer that's worth over a grand.

General has been around for decades and parts are available. Check the motor carefully because a new one for that model is going to set you back about $280. A new one is just under $700.
