Over the years I’ve learned that there are a few common things that happen to each appliance, if you can pin point the cause of the issue then replacing the parts is usually a cheap easy fix. If I can’t fix it then it gets replaced, the cost of a service call and the mark up on the parts usually gets you a substantial way to the cost of a replacement.

I will say that the 2 oldest appliances are a freezer my parents had when I was in High School +30 years ago and the AC that came with the house 20 years ago are easily the most reliable things I have. Freezer has never done anything but keep things frozen and the AC has had maybe 3 service calls that were about $100 each. I’ve replaced multiples of everything else and I figure those 2 things will probably out live me.

We know that Samsung has a poor fridge reputation. The salesperson at a big box was very eager to show us some random "email printout" that he had proclaiming poor user survey results for Samsung. CR's 2022 buyers guide does suggest that Samsung is not as high a point-scorer as LG or other brands.

        We get it.

But gosh darn it, Samsung's features and layouts are just so appealing (generally). While they've gotten a bit wacky with the "bespoke" models, overall they seem to understand what kitchen people are looking for.

.It was very hard to ignore the Samsung models to look at the others on the show floor.

Is it possible that it just wasn't closed properly at some point?

appreciate the suggestion. we've been thinking temp has been wacky for a few months, so we hope that it's not that.

Pulled the trigger on a new LG that was in the price range, 85% of desired features, and ranked relatively well in Consumer Reports.

temps on the Samsung have fluctuated throughout the last two days enough to say, yeah, it’s time.

again, kudos to Thermoworks and their fridge thermometers. Well worth that investment.

I had a scare a while back with my still hanging on fridge. We also thought LG was the way to go in the end. Good pick.

Update: LG arrived, and as of this morning has finally seemed to stabilize on temperatures. Still need to load it back up (we threw out a lot of items that were on the verge of being questionable -- horseradish with a best-by date in 2021, for example)

But so far? Biggest issue seems to be taking a bit of time to re-learn fridge organization/shelf usage vs habits of the previous unit. But that's easy to overcome.

I thought this would be an appropriate subject to post under without having to start a new one.

We just got our brand new LG LRMVS3006S refrigerator delivered and installed from Costco. There was an attempted delivery a week ago but the lazy installers didn’t want to take the doors off in order to get it in the house. I learned from today’s installers that the previous ones got nicked $100 each for delivery failure. Very interesting policy. The guys today were pro, from start to finish. I didn’t even have to suggest they take the doors off first. What I learned from Costco Logistics is that it is part of the Concierge Service you get when you buy from them - delivery and basic installation. I tipped each of the guys today for their positive attitudes, friendly demeanors and expert installation. They will get a stellar recommendation from me.

This new fridge has nearly all the bells and whistles LG provides. Door-in-door with InstaView, Fully convertible (freezer or fridge) middle drawer, craft ice-maker for cocktails, Wi-Fi connectivity, ThinkQ app, on and on, ad infinitum. At $3K, it damn well better make my cocktails for me!

Good riddance Samsung POS. I hope you have a second life as a boat anchor.

Sounds like I got the exact same LG from Costco, and dumped my Samsung too. I actually donated it to a local goat farm that makes their own cheeses. I have had my LG about six weeks, I love the craft ice (Samsung ice maker sucks), and have gotten used to the shelving arrangement etc. Hope you like yours as much.

We had no issues with the Samsung icemaker we had. Had to get used to the LG's slower development time (and larger cubes). Thought we'd be low on ice, but that has not been the case.

Our HD delivery went well. They knew how to remove fridge handles and otherwise adjust door entry for delivery. Good CustServ delivery team.

We were talked out of the middle convertible temp drawer - not because it doesn't do what's advertised but because its presence cut down on the available fridge or freezer space above/below it.

Keep us posted on whether you use the wifi to its fullest (and why), and whether the door features end up being worthwhile to be considered later.

Yep. We will definitely have to adjust our storage methods with this one because each additional door takes up space.

We got ours last year, I think. We did make one mistake in our choice. So that 'middle drawer' thing on most French door refrigerators now... a bunch of them had a pair of French doors, then a horizontal middle drawer and a freezer on bottom. We didn't like having the middle drawer as a separate, outside-accessible compartment, just didn't like the '4th door' on the outside.

We use that middle drawer for all our lunchmeat, cheese, butter, etc. Tons of stuff, it's probably the most-accessed single spot in our fridge. But because we chose a model without an outside-accessible door, we have to open BOTH French doors in order to get to it.

It's not a huge thing - but over years of use, I bet wear and tear on the hinges would be a thing. And it's just a pain. A minor annoyance, but we have both expressed our regret over that decision. Just something we didn't think all the way through.

              Don't be like me....

Have had the same full size drawer on the Samsung and the LG. No concerns about hinge wear. Was a desired feature

We used that ‘deli’ drawer in the old Samsung a lot too, so I’m looking forward to using that convertible drawer without having to open both upper doors to get things.

Don't put your Thermoworks away. Monitor your new refrigerator. I just replaced a 10 YO GE with a LG and the temp's on the door display LIE and the Owner's manual doesn't help. I researched the issues and found that there are more involved and convoluted settings that need to be played with. I can't find the source of the instructions I used, but this link How to Adjust Temperature on LG Refrigerators: A Comprehensive Guide (homeoutmind.com) seems similar. It took a couple of days of monitoring and fiddling and futzing but the refrigerator is now reliably holding 36-37° with the freezer at -2° Out of the box it was 38-40° and 0-5°. Modern technology on the surface may appear better than BITD, but in practical use its not. Although it probably does use less power. Personally I'd rather pay more for an ice cube that quietly stays an ice cube than one that talks to my phone.

Yup, keeping the thermoworks fridge thermometer in the LG. It's keeping temp with no issues!
