I have used a mat in the past and the bottom line is that, for me, I don't use them. Frankly, I just don't like them. I have grill baskets that accomplish the same thing. I like grill marks on my food and it's really hard to get grill marks on cooks with mats, at least in my experience.

Dances with lemmings
(and smokes on a Yoder 640, raises bees and shoots a .408 WIndrunner) "come la notte i furti miei seconda"
I use them for small items... peppers, etc that would otherwise fall through and might stick to the baskets. Baskets preferred in general.

Has anyone seen a heat rating on those mats? I seriously doubt they'd handle the kind of searing heat I play around with.
