WSM 22.5", Pitmaster IQ110, Weber 22.5" Kettle with SNS, Weber 14" Smokey Joe.
I have one that I use a lot for grinding and crushing spices. It is made out of stone or granite, is large, heavy and the pestle is a good size. Crushing and grinding cumin seeds after toasting blows away store bought powder. I believe I bought it at a Mexican grocery store. I also use it when making guacamole.

And since we're talking pestles, don't forget:
The vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison.
The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true.Last edited by WillTravelForFood; July 8, 2022, 05:31 AM.

Iâve got a large Stone one I picked up from Costco probably 10 years ago. It was stupid cheap, but itâs a big, heavy piece of rock thatâs been put through the paces and itâs still going strong.
Iâve seen the same/similar one in more recent years, so it may show up any minute!

We gave my daughter a childrenâs cookbook a few years ago when she was 10. A few days later a small but very heavy box showed up on our porch from An online store. I opened it up to find a mortar and pestle. I was perplexed. She came in the kitchen and told me she ordered it because the ðŸ¼â recipe in the cook mentioned it. She just ordered it on her own using my apple pay. apparently. Well itâs still going strong and still gets used.

I have a granite molcajete that gets in the way of everything, is heavy to move and is an absolute necessity when I want to grind/pound anything. I think Serious Eats has a great review on these things...

I have been through a few and the one I love is my 8" solid granite. I can make a curry from
scratch in it. And although I don't marinade often if I'm going to the trouble I use this because it pulverizes the aromatics together. There is no comparison with chopped garlic/onion/pepper. I got it from a thai grocer but you can find them in various places.

I have three! They are awesome. I use them constantly. Each is used for different applications.
The Italian marble mortar with olive wood pestle is used for pestos and herbaceous preparations. The shop that makes them in Italy sells on Etsy. You can find them at: Nuova Marmotecnica.
the tai Mortar and pestle is great for handling whole spices and hard grinding applications. You can purchase here: https://importfood.com/products/thai...d-thai-granite
The lava rock Molcajete is ideal for guacamole and similar applications. You can purchase it here: https://www.mexgrocer.com/50409-8742...Stone%20Mortar
I recommend all three! You will love them
