    bbq vortex

what is your opinion of the bbq vortex?

    #2
Yeah, I think I'm in it. After joining the club, I bought huge amount of spices for rubs, added more cutlery to my favorite little filet knife, bought ton of accessories from xl cutting boards and digital thermometers to gravy carafes, dozen plus wines with 4 sets of crystal stemware, and whole cuts of premium meats from ranches that I never heard of, and now a meat grinder and a vacuum sealer. (When will it ever end!) Yeah. I'm sucked into the bbq vortex and it's awesome.

    haha

I think Chuppy meant the vortex implement..... but you sure got sucked into a MCS (more cooking stuff) vortex and it's not ending soon as long as you're a member here 😂

The Vortex does a great job with wings and poppers!

I love mine. Wings, thighs, pork steaks, blasphemy ribs….the list goes on and on. For hot and fast indirect cooking it really helps.

I have heard so much positive feedback on the Vortex that I finally purchased one for my 22" Performer. It is supposed to arrive two days from now on Monday. Now I have a SNS and am a big believer in it but I have never been totally satisfied with my chicken cooked with it, especially the dark meat which is my favorite, along with wings of course.

I have NEVER seen a negative comment on the vortex! So, I have taken the plunge. I will report back when I have some personal experience.

It gets the one trick pony label due to how well it cooks wings, and I know it has many more uses other than wings but that’s all I really use it for. Even so I don’t regret buying this at all, especially given how relatively cheap it is. It does wings so well that I figure even if that’s all I ever use it for it’s a small investment for a lifetime of awesome wings.

👆🏻What he said. I’ve used mine for grilling brats and pork steak.

I am in total agreement! For about $40 it is a lot of bang for the buck.

Yep, it probably does several things. Don’t care! For ME, it’s a wing cookin’ machine.

Love it and bought one for my brother for Christmas. Without it I’d probably retire my Weber kettle to the bones yard. Small end up and put the coals inside and it is great for wings, thighs and legs placed around the edge of the grate. Every piece of meat evenly roasted. Turn it around with large end up, place your whole chicken inside on a stand and lay the coals around the Vortex and it’s a whole chicken roaster. Again, perfectly roasted and golden brown.

One of the best small pieces of equipment I ever purchased. Well worth the investment.

I used a stainless steel bowl (cheapie) to make my poortex. Buy one that is close to the height between charcoal and grill grate. I had to cut lower down the bowl I bought to get it to fit and the top opening is a bit wider than I'd like (opening diameter is 200mm) something around 150mm would be better. Don't know what the original vortex diameter is. Anyone have the measurement let us know.

BTW the cheapie bowl has lasted more than 2 years if I'm not mistaken and still going strong.

I love it. Yes, for chicken and turkey parts! Beware the knockoffs. Sure, they'll do the same thing but.......

+1. I love my Vortex and I love to save money. But I'll spend a few dollars more for the real thing vs rewarding the copycats for stealing someone else's idea. I hate that Amazon makes it so easy for the copycats to do what they do.

I recently bought a bunch of Myron Mixon products and one was his "vortex" I was thinking of asking the Pit crew what y'all thought of yours and when I logged in I saw this topic. I'd rather be lucky than good any day!

Just cut them into single bones, add rub and cook them until tender at a higher heat on the vortex. It's almost like air frying them, just watch out using a rub or sauce that has a lot of sugar because it will burn.
