If I use on raw meat, I wash. During the cook I do not wash.

If I wash, then it's with heat. And that's only with chicken. I have about 4 sets of tongs but I only use 1 as my go to. The rest suck. I guess I could pour some alcohol over them, but why waste that on tongs?

I have tongs that can be washed in the dishwasher and others that can't (wood sides). If I am flipping meat, I'll use the "raw" tongs until the surface is cooked enough, then I switch to another set. The raw tongs are always from the dishwashable sets.
Also the phrase "wash by fire" is the best thing ever.
