I've got a serious itch to do a S. Carolina BBQ roadtrip, saw an article on Scott's BBQ In Hemingway, can anyone help with what airport, what BBQ joints you recommend, I can probably do the research myself, but thought I'd go straight to the source. Tim

My daughter lives in Columbia, so I have sampled quite a few BBQ over the years. South Carolina is one of the places they still do open Pit BBQ which is not my my favorite style. I have sampled a number of places recommended in Southern Living articles, but so far I have not been overly impressed. However, I have enjoyed "Stickey Fingers" in Charleston and "Firey Ron's" on Sullivan's Island near Charleston. I thought "Maurcie's" chicken was good and the rest was okay. My critique may be due to the reality that the best BBQ is in someone's backyard. Since moving to Texas I have found what I consider exceptional BBQ that lives up to it's reputation. That's not to say the BBQ in South Carolina is bad, but I just have often found places seem to live up to their reputation. All that being said I still will be trying some more places on my next visit. Let us know what you find.

Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. Absolutely love anything to do with baking bread. Favorite cool weather beer: Sam Adams Octoberfest Favorite warm weather beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager. All-time favorite drink: Single Malt Scotch
Charleston or Columbia airport would be best. Charleston is on the coast, Columbia is inland, about Mid-state. Or, if you are looking more towards the middle or western area, you can fly into Charlotte, NC and drive into SC. Heck, if you fly into Charlotte, I know there are Pit members there!
