KC MeatUp?

As anyone who has been to one can tell you, the MeatUps are a great time. Well, anyone except that one poor person who was treated very rudely by Panhead John. They didn't have much fun.

So, I have been kicking around the idea of having one in KC. I've been to KC a bunch of times to visit my kid, and have been to several great BBQ places. And a couple that I thought were way over rated, so I think I could handle doing the leg work if there is enough interest. This would probably happen in the Spring or Fall of 2027, since KC is too dang hot in the Summer, and can be chilly in the Winter. Cast your votes now, if it is something that you would find worthwhile to put together. And for our Chicago area friends, try to only vote once... We aren't electing a mayor here.

If there is enough interest, then I'll start putting together a plan.

It would be an 8 hour drive for me, so it is a possibility. From all I’ve read KC BBQ would be a contrast to Texas BBQ. I’m up to different experiences.

For me any Meatup is going to be a flight (good luck finding good BBQ places in Boston!), so compared to me, you're right next door!

Looking forward to how this all shapes up. Beef is the BBQ king in Texas, but pork is the main event in KC (Kansas or Missouri). Looking forward to some pulled pork and ribs with a sweet, smoky sauce. Burnt ends too. Oh, and BBQ beans….yes sir.

Was in KC about 25 years ago. Arthur Bryant was the big draw. I’m sure a lot has changed on the KC BBQ circuit. I was turned on to one of the best bottled BBQ sauces I’ve had from the locals. And it wasn’t from KC

I think Kansas City would be an excellent destination for a MeatUp. It’s got a rich BBQ history and to me, is a logical choice to have one. Its location would also make it a “not too far” choice for a lot of members to attend. If I can make a few suggestions…..don’t wait till the Fall of 2027, do it in the Spring, strike while it’s still fresh on people’s minds. I also think that after a harsh winter in some parts of the country, some people might be ready to get out of town around that time, April-May-ish. All you need is maybe 8-10 people to go to be a success, I don’t think that would be hard to accomplish. When this post has run its course and you get an idea of the number of possible attendees, let me know if you decide to do it. I’ll be more than happy to help any way I can. We’ve had plenty of Texas MeatUps and it might be time for another location. We can also skip a Texas MeatUp for the Spring so we don’t compete for attendance.
