Just tossing this out there... I have a rental car reserved and I gave up drinking many winters ago. would there be any interest in me getting a full sized passenger van for going out and about? It would let folks who do imbibe have a DD and not have to worry about Johnny Law. Just a random thought.
After some discussion and some PM's I reserved a 15 passenger van for Thursday to Sunday just to make sure we have one available.
So if you would like to have a ride and not worry about how many barley pops you have, or just prefer to no drive, we got you covered. I still have the car reservation, so I'm going to ask just to get a feel for the interest for this. If you are coming to the MeatUp, would you take advantage of riding in the van and going where the van goes, or would you prefer to do your own thing?
The current but subject to change thinking is to hit whatever Mexican place we are going to Thursday night, Lockhart on Friday, and Austin on Saturday.
If enough people are interested in getting in the van and helping me look for my lost puppy, I'll just cancel the car and keep the van. Or I'll find my poor lost puppy who is probably scared and hungry on my own. Let me know what you think folks.
There might also be candy, but you won't know that until you get in the van.
Lastly, we will have a vehicle of some sort and will be arriving in Austin around 2:30p on Thursday, so if you need a ride from the airport and the timing works for you, we can probably help out with that too.

Mosca. 15 is max capacity including the driver, so I'm sure some people are going to prefer to not sardine in. Lucky for me, I know which seat is mine. 🙂
Here’s a picture of the van WI Bubba , or whatever his name is this week, will be renting. I think it’s a good idea. As he mentioned, no worries about having margaritas at the Mexican restaurant Thursday night, and then driving back to the hotel…..or any evening dinner plans for that matter. Just some food for thought, if anyone wants to visit Lockhart, or Burnt Bean, one day and hit up Austin the next, I’ve got a recommendation. I’d plan on Lockhart for Friday and Austin on Saturday. Lockhart is a nice meandering drive down some country side backroads with not much traffic. Driving to Austin is a straight shot up I-35 from San Marcos and there will be less traffic on Saturday than dealing with all the work day traffic on a Friday. As always, feel free to go wherever you want and when you want!
P.S. For anyone wanting to hit up an HEB, there’s a couple of them in San Marcos…..

The van is a great idea and I'll gladly ride as a passenger for dinner each night. During the day I might strike out on my own, depends on where everyone is going. I've gotten to where I like to hit two or three places and get a small sample plate rather than choose one place and eat a full meal. That way I get to try more places.
Oh, anyone in town Thursday around the lunch hour: For all of the San Marcos Meat Ups I roll into town around noon and go to North Street Curry House for lunch; if anyone wants to feel free to join me: good Indian food and Indian tacos, craft beer, and coffee.

Anyone who is arriving Wednesday ( Sid P), maybe head down to San Antonio for 2M Smokehouse, or maybe tacos, for lunch Thursday? I’d say dinner Wednesday, but my plane lands at 8 in Austin.
Mosca I just spoke to Amanda at the hotel and you definitely are getting the $139. group rate as advertised. It was just a matter of her entering some info. on your reservation when the front desk person told her about you. If anyone else experiences any problems booking your room, please let me know! We were down to 1 King room left in our block and 2 Queen doubles. I had her add 3 more King rooms to our block, so now we have 4 King rooms available along with the 2 Queen rooms. Anyway, for anyone on the fence about attending, if you book your room now and have to cancel later, you can do so up to 48 hours before your check-in date without any charges.
I'm officially out. The daughter is going to be having her directorial debut in a community theater production the following weekend. So, our April travel budget is taken up by a trip to Chicago for the best version of something in the history of theater.

It looks like the list of possible attendees for Thursday lunch at 2M in San Antonio is growing.
2M is considered (by both lists) among the best in Texas; my guess is that Thursday wouldn’t be a wait-in-line day. So we could show up at 11, dine, and see San Antonio. Or do something else. Anything but stand in line.
Just a reminder that the booking link to the AmazingRibs discount has expired as of 3/17/26. If anyone else wants to attend and hasn’t booked yet, please call the hotel directly. 512-812-0044 You must mention you’re with the AmazingRibs.com group to get the special $139. rate……..Carry on
Booking person can't give the AR rate. His boss will be in on Monday and maybe she will! There are rooms available but the rate for the weekend jumps to over $200.

Kim will not drive, no way no how. At 1,050 miles prolly looking at 15 - 20 hours conservatively.
I would rent a veh, n hammer down. I hate air travel n airports. She has no interest.
I am just glad she likes the Meatups.

1700 miles here. Aside from having the air miles covered with points, that’s 3 days driving, each way, and 4 hotel rooms. Too much for an old guy with a wife depending on me here. If I were younger, or if she could travel with me, maybe. But nope.
I’ll keep an eye on it, and hope it resolves by then. I’m not too worried about going there; ABE is small and close by. But my flight from SAT is really early Monday AM.

In addition to gas prices i am concerned about shortages. If I get in trouble over empty pumps, I hope I am in a good place. Like somewhere in KY around a distillery
