While I'm bad about keeping stuff in my inbox and just using the search functions instead of sorting emails out, I do make sure everything has been looked at, and keep my spam folder clean as well, so that I don't miss anything important. Forgetting about it after I've looked at it is a whole other problem....

I think there a lot of people with numerous email accounts, some created to sign up for clubs, programs etc, with the intent of ignoring the box as it fills with spam.

They might not have thought about this giveaway when they decided which email to use.

dweverett Yep, that's why we announce in every monthly issue of "HOT From The Pit!" to check the email on file with us, and we include a link to do so. We try to do everything we can, but ultimately if you're an email ignorer, well that's on you! We move on to the next name pretty easily.

Often folks use a company email address. Then if they change jobs they lose the email. Probably happens a lot.

Yep. When new memebrs sign up the Welcome email that they get mentins the email issue pretty matter-of-factly, and we encourage them to use an email they check regularly and to change it right now if neceesary. We try.

winning and finding out much later for sure. I'm good with never winning, I never win the lottery either... but if I ever found a winning ticket that was expired I'd be devastated even if it was only for 5 bucks.

I can only remember one time a winner who'd forfetied emailed me shortly afterward and said they were on a no-email-checking vacation and got the news a couple days too late when they were back. I aplogized to them for the timing but they were cool with it and understood. This was back when there was only one winner so the single prize was bigger than the individual ones now. I felt bad since they were so bummed abou it.
