Ok, I filled out the paper work! I'm so excited. Thank you to all involved!
I have to clarify something from my earlier post. We have pretty cold winters here, but we only get a good snow a few times a year. When I re-read my post, it sounded like I cook in the snow all the time. What I meant was I grill at least once week during winter, even if there is snow out there! We got about 5 inches today...i didn't grill!
I'm from Texas, moved to Idaho 13 years ago due to my husband's job. Some of my coworkers invited us to a BBQ. We got there to find hamburgers and hotdogs!?! Where I'm from, BBQ has a dry rub or sauce! I was pretty good with the pit, but no expert. Didn't need to be...never far from great BBQ in Texas. Well, here in Idaho I had to up my game. I found this website a couple years ago. It seems I follow lots of Meathead's advice, (is that a reflection of my character? Just joking, I don't know Meathead at all, but I love the personality expressed throughout his articles.) I bought a vertical smoker thanks to an article I read and have done some pretty good pulled pork! I have a backyard pit with a side smoker and can do a fair job with brisket and ribs. I only have inexpensive equipment I've purchased at end of year clearance sales! I won't know what to do with quality equipment...but I intend to figure it out!
Anyway...last April as I was looking up something on this site, the pop up appeared about joining. I like the site, use it fairly often, so thought the support was worth it. I didn't do anything different after joining. I can see now that I haven't explored all the options members have at their fingertips! I will do better! Any advice?
After WAY too much info, I have a request...everyone send positive vibes for a snow day tomorrow!!!!

kmwweiskircher - I do have a bit of advice for ya.
Try smoking a chuck roast just like you smoke pork butts. The only change would be to use a rub designed for beef like Big Bad Beef Rub or Montreal Steak Seasoning. Smoke it until probe tender, cambro it, and then pull it.

Congrats on winning! I'm really glad to read what you wrote. It sounds like you have a lot to contribute based on your history and experience. What type of vertical smoker did you get and what have you been cooking lately? Just by virtue of cooking once a week outdoors you fit in with this group perfectly and it sounds like the prize went to the right person (although I was keeping my fingers crossed for myself). I look forward to seeing pictures and learning from you. Congrats, again.
