Relocating to Appleton WI—Meat source and BBQ recs, please

I am relocating from suburban Chicago to Appleton WI. I have already discovered Jacob’s Meat Market. Looking for additional meat source/butcher shop and BBQ joint recommendations.

I used to live in Appleton 15 yrs ago. It's a great area. I raised my son there from 11 yrs old to graduating High School. Small town feel but the Fox Valley rivals Milwaukee in population but it's really spread out. If you want the big town feel Milwaukee is 1.75 hrs away. In my time never found the butcher I was looking for. After 15 yrs I'm thinking it has to have gotten better. If you're into fishing and water sports you have found nirvana. The Wolf river runs through the area. You can launch in Fremont ( 1/2 hr away from Appleton)and without having to change your travels and boat to Fond Du Lac without changing direction. Fishing is great, lots of small towns to stop at and explore and within walking distance of every launch I have found decent food.
Good luck and if they let you through the cheddar curtain at the border, Welcome to Wisconsin!

Welcome to Wisconsin from La Crosse, wrong side of the state for recommendations, but glad to have you here.

Richard Chrz Never had that opportunity but I sure do love the backwaters for the monster gills and perch, holy cow. And BTW jumping a beaver dam in the backwaters is on the bucket list
And on a sidenote I have snorkled the wing dams. Massive hardware downstream, all broken and useless but fun to see

tmaan235 I worked for a friend for a few summers, he had a dock & shore shaping business. I used to drive his barges through the locks and dams , backwaters, eventually got to running a team that water & concrete jetted pylons for piers, and carried the excavator for the rip rap shore lines,

I was a licensed diver at the time so occasionally would do under water dock repair and hydro Jett from under boat lifts when river beds were low, All of it hard work, but so rewarding in your day’s end

You are just a hop, skip and a jump from Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats in Wittenberg. You will find some of the greatest bacon made on the planet in bulk amongst other things, yessir!

@ FireMan!!!! Neuskes is the seat of life! Surprised you know about it. Wittenburg is my mecca. I have a chance to buy once a year and leave with 20 lb of irregulars. Been doing it for the last 20 yrs. Welcome brother

Omg! I love Nueske’s. I’ve worked with them several times (trade shows). Met the owner and everything. Nueske’s is unrivaled in bacon. I prefer the cherrywood as it has less nitrates (heartburn city).

I find it here and there. Stupid expensive. It’s rare to find the cherrywood, though.

SheilaAnn let's revisit this. Maybe there's a way to get you a $35.00 5 lb. bag and ship it in one of those fancy, wasteful, foam food delivery boxes and get you a slice of heaven.....

There’s a place called The Meat Block a little northwest of Appleton, just past Greenville. I haven’t been there in a few years but it’s half butcher shop, half grill/smoker store (think wood, rubs, accessories, etc). They carried Yoders the last time I was there, both the stick burners and pellet grills. It’s not a huge place by any means but it’s fun to look around and the meat and food selection looked good.
Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.
