Who Sells The Best Steaks Online?….Especially Porterhouses

I quit buying grocery store steaks [for the most part] about 5 or 6 years ago after joining Costco. Costco has rarely had porterhouses whenever I looked. While I love their strips and ribeyes, I wasn’t that impressed with a couple of porterhouses I had from there…..it’s been over a year. Anyway, I’m wanting to try an online place and see if I can find some great porterhouse steaks. Don’t laugh, but the best ones I’ve been able to find so far are from Walmart. I love H‑E‑B but I haven’t found many porterhouses there that I like, their PH steaks that I’ve found, are a little on the small and thin side.

I’m not interested in any other cuts except steaks, don’t care about their brisket or roasts etc. I’m not interested in Wagyu either, but the best steaks I can find in Prime grade, if you think they’re better than Costco’s. Does anyone you know of sell Prime grade Porterhouses? I’ve only experienced Choice, or…gasp!, Select, myself. Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

I've been pretty happy with my orders from Meat N Bone, their prices are generally a little lower than some other places and they have a decent selection of grades and aging. I haven't done a porter through them before, but have ordered plenty of pork, beef, game, and seafood and been quite pleased.

Following, that is a cut in our area that never impresses me when I look.

what are you hoping for, 1 1/2 - 2 inch thick / angus beef?

Yes sir Richard, at least 1 1/2” to 2” thick. 2” is plenty thick for me. It doesn’t have to be Angus, just whatever is out there that’ll beat what I’m finding locally.

      Creekstone.

A porterhouse is half strip and half filet. I’ve never had their porterhouse, but I’ve had both of the others from there, and I’ll vouch.

I was also going to suggest Creekstone too but no personal experience with their steaks.

FWIW, I felt Porter Road does an outstanding job on steaks but didn’t really blow me away on the brisket. Worth considering. If you are going to get some porterhouse, please give Denver steaks a shot too. It is an amazing cut and very thick cut.

        It looks beastly.

Porterhouse combines the tenderness of filet and juicy marbled goodness of a strip. All of our beef is dry-aged for a minimum of two weeks, leading to an extra flavorful and tender cut. 100% Pasture-raised with no added hormones and zero antibiotics. Shop online today!

I checked out Porter Road, but they never mention whether their steaks are prime, choice or something worse. Assume it’s choice, but the images of the steak all look like prime.

I noticed Creekstone isn’t offering porterhouses right now. I’d next recommend Flannery Beef.

Best? Who knows. But I too can personally vouch for Creekstone being wonderful. I've not had cut porterhouses from them, but like Mosca I have had other cuts (strips & ribeyes, probably goes w/o saying) and full loins that I cut myself, and all are always top notch FWIW. Same story with Wild Fork for me, except I've only had their roasts & tri tips.

Be sure to take advantage of your members-only discounts from Porter Road, Meat 'N Bone, and Hassell Cattle Company (you're in TX so you get a cheaper free-shipping cutoff) if you haven't already.

The porterhouse is the bigger, more premium brother of the "T-Bone" steak. It is much thicker and has much more of the tenderloin relative to the loin portion.  Porterhouse steaks are not often sold at Supermarkets because they are expensive and usually served at restaurants. We are selling restaurant grade steaks, the

          Lol!

Mrs Mosca was watching QVC, and called me in to watch some guy making a whole tenderloin cooked in a bag in the oven. He then plated the roast, poured the jus into a pan and said, “Look at all those juices from the sous vide!” Meanwhile I was just aghast that someone would roast a tenderloin in a bag.

Unbelievable. Panhead John , you need to give them a call with a heads up. If I had crockpot steak, I would cry.

Panhead John do I need to come down there and help you find a good butcher!?! I've got three prime butcher shops where I live that all sell top of the line steaks, including Wagu. (I don't buy Wagu, but I shop at these locations and love the steaks I get, including Porterhouse.)

You're the third largest city in the US. You guys have to have quality butcher shops around there, don't you?!?

Well, we might have ONE…….😂 You know, I’m such a creature of habit, shopping at the same places and I never go to just a plain old butcher shop. We probably have a ton of them here, I just never think about it. Great idea Brian! I’ll need to research that.

mrteddyprincess - Believe it or not I lived in Beaumont, just outside Houston, for 5 years in the early 90’s and never found a decent steak in a store or restaurant. I was always under the impression that Texas had good meat. Maybe there is more $$ shipping it out of state?

Johnny Booth the best steak I ever had was on the gulf coast of Florida just south of Sarasota in 1987. I don't know where that restaurant got that steak I ate, but it was magic. It surprises me you didn't find good steak in East Texas.

This is local to me. Love the beef they produce, and the steaks have been excellent. Some great marbling on everything I have purchased from them. This is a great little shop that just opened up their own packing plant so they don’t have to outsource for that any longer. The owner, Brett, is a true ranch cowboy! I’ve ran into him a few times as he lives nearby - wife and I see him occasionally at the brewery we ride our bikes to.

Anyhow, the beef is excellent, as are the steaks. I’ve tried both the ribeye and porterhouse and thought the flavor was top notch! And they do ship out of state now.

No Bull Prime Meats produces Prime beef, pork, lamb and goat, certified all-natural, in the state of New Mexico.

For the last 3-4 years I have been using 44 Farms in Cameron, TX as one of my main meat suppliers. They raise Angus beef and do NOT have pork, chicken, etc. Only beef. I see that they have Porterhouses in bundles of 2, 30 oz, each for $90. Shipping is free if your order is over $125 (I believe) and no sales tax is added. Tax might be different for Texas residents.

They have great service and are small enough to know you but big enough to handle many top restaurants around the country too. The only complaint my wife has is that their ribeyes are too big for her. I'm a NY strip fan and their 12 oz are perfect.
One of my other favorites of theirs is the Prime Top Sirloins that are inexpensive and tasty as all get out. Don't order the choice because the Prime are only a dollar more.

We have also had their briskets, flanks, hangers, and their ground chuck. All have been great. For some reason last year they came out with tamales.....and they sucked. Don't get them, just stick to beef.

They also have a retail location at the farm. You'll like 44 Farms!

We ship First Class Mail, always. That's where the mailmen still wear mailman suits and they deliver through rain, snow, 110 degree afternoons, gloom of night, whatever! First Class is first class, right? So, what can I put you down for...?

I highly recommend Double R Ranch, the prime and choice beef sold by Snake River Farms. They sell it at my local grocery store and it is fantastic. Looks like the prime is currently unavailable, they only have SRF American wagyu in stock. I’m sure the prime will be back in stock soon.

Experience the excellence of Snake River Farms Dry-Aged Porterhouse. Aged for rich flavor, hand-cut for perfection. Transform your meal. Order now!

The Porterhouse is a steak sure to impress the plate. It consists of a Bone-In Sirloin Strip with a Bone-In Tenderloin. Keeping the bone-in boosts the flavor. This steak will make your friends jealous. *Steaks sold individually*
