    Turkey Breast

Shopping this Friday. What can I say, great buy.

I will see a Traegerized turkey breast in the future.
That is unless you convince me of another way.
What is your favorite way to cook turkey breasts?

We always by turkey on sale and keep in the freezer. Cook a whole turkey several times a year. Right after Thanksgiving we found some turkeys at .39 per lb.

I got a free frozen turkey one year.

Six years later I tossed it. It’s not that we don’t like turkey, it’s that it is so far down the list that, over six years, we never liked it enough to thaw it out, and plan to eat it, over just buying just about anything else. And I don’t really have a rule about how long most things last in the freezer, but whole birds have that big cavity in there, and it wasn’t like I’d spent $$ on it.

Sous vide the breast and sear it off at 400*f in the Traeger—That is a thought. I may have to try that out. Season in the sous vide bag.
Have you ever started with a frozen turkey in sous vide?

I did one a couple weeks ago. Turned out great.
Takes 3 days to thaw out in fridge.
Injected with low sodium chicken broth.
Pat dry and apply your favorite rub.
Pre heat your pellet grill to 275.
Set the probe inside and cook to 120, Takes about 1 hour 20 min.
Wrap in foil, with a big splash of chicken broth, and butter.
cook to 160, or about a total of 3 hours. Temp will raise to about 165.
Let it rest at least 20 min.
Sliced at about 1/4 inch thick, for sandwiches.
You can keep in fridge 2-3 days and freeze the rest, date freezer bag 2 months out. as not safe any longer.
          For food safety.

Oak Smoke I always go for the short side, when it comes to food safety. Don't want my family getting sick from my negligence. Flavor and taste have a lot to do with it. In my mind Your Thanksgiving vacuum turkey : Eat it early February or before at the latest. There are other sites that say 2-3 days in fridge and 2 months in freezer. Below is USDA recommendation.

USDA recommends using cooked turkey within 3 to 4 days, kept refrigerated (40°F or less). Refrigeration slows but does not stop bacterial growth. Turkey can be frozen for 3 to 4 months. Although safe indefinitely, frozen leftovers can lose moisture and flavor when stored for longer times in the freezer.

randy.56 OK I feel better now! We normally have eaten all the leftover turkey within 3 months. It’s so versatile. My wife made turkey salad for sandwiches today. Her turkey salad has sliced grapes which I thought would be terrible until I tried it. I don’t want it any other way now.
