Finally!!!! A reasonable Brisket source. FULL-PACKER-BRISKET in NNJ

My brisket game is middling to lousy. But frankly, the incentive to improve has been eliminated in northern NJ bc it's impossible to find full packers for sale. Costco only sells flats at $6.80/lb and I've had to special order a full packer from my butcher and I think (it's been so long I don't even remember) the price was $7.99/lb or it might have even been $8.99. 6th Borough BBQ do you recall how much you paid for the brisket you cooked the other day? At those prices I'd rather eat steak...

Anyway, I found full packers at Seabra in Newark for $3.99/lb. I know, the southerners are giggling, but for us briketly challenged in the northeast, this is YUUGE! At that price it's cheap enough that I want to play around. I know what i'll be doing next weekend.

Sweet. It is nice to have plenty full packers to choose from, even if it's just Select and possibly Choice. I passed up a 10 pound Choice last week for a 15 pound Select. The Slow 'n Sear and 26" kettle knocked that dude out the park!

    Have fun!!!!

Very nice find! I've run short here in Northern Illinois this year. I used to be able to find Choice full packers at about $3 per pound, but I can't find any full packers right now!

Oh, really?? I thought it was much more expensive. $5/lb isn't horrible.

It was better than Inexpected and came out great. Also, the guys at Maloney's great. They usually hook me up with amazing steaks and sausages also.

Out here in Central PA, we can find full packer briskets in Walmart for between 3.50-3.75 per pound. There are other meat providers out here as well including Sam's Club. You might wanna give your local Wallyworld a try. They might surprise you.

Yeah, since this post I happened into a Walmart and saw they had full packers for sale there too. That was only my second time in a Walmart so it was a good surprise. Thanks for the heads up.

Too bad your Costco only has flats. At my local Costco, I can get full USDA Prime briskets for $2.99-$3.99 per pound, depending on the time of year. I think they were $3.49/lb the last time I was in there.
