Stemple Creek - Salmon Restoration Tour

As part of my job I do projects for salmonid habitat enhancement and restoration. This work benefits other species as well but it’s funded by organizations that are addressing limiting factors for salmon and steelhead.

So I went to the Salmonid Restoration Federation Conference in CA and had registered for a process based restoration in the uplands tour and a site visit to look at beaver dam analogs (BDA’s). The beaver were all made into hats unfortunately long ago, but beaver are the original restoration engineers 🦫!!

And lo and behold, I find myself on Stemple Ranch, listening to Loren Poncia talking about regenerative farming, carbon sequestration and building soil.

ID:	1577777 They have raised the groundwater table and improved riparian cover, cold water inputs, edge habitat, and grass production. It was really beautiful out there!! I’m about ready to put a big order in somewhere and although Stemple is steep I really like what they are doing out there. 🦫🦫🦫🔥🔥🐿️

Very cool indeed. My wife has a degree in fisheries management but has never worked in the field (another waste of money obtaining a skill never used, but that's a whole other topic ). My first degree was in ichthyology so any study of conservation of our fish population is of interest and great importance to me.

My only problem is I'm trying to pronounce the word "salmonid" in my mind. Is it "oid" or "id"?? Oh never mind...

I just have a degree in environmental resources engineering. Everything I know about fish and riverine processes I learned on the job. It’s “id”

Would ichthyology translate to fisheries biology?
          🔥🔥🐿️

Yes on the bio degree. I never went into that field of endeavor sadly, my only work with fish these days is to catch and eat lol !!! I do support the Texas CCA who has done a tremendous job of keeping the gulf spices from getting fished out and eradicated through conservation and fish population efforts..

Very cool Troutman my grandfather was also a Trautmann. Is that how you met your wife? The shared fisheries interest? 🔥🔥🐿️
