    Costco Brisket

I've been buying prime brisket from Costco for some time now. You can't beat the $1.99/lb. I went to both Costco's near my house today to find out they are selling it for $3.59. what gives? Has anyone else seen this? It's still a better price then the butchers near me, but I was wondering if it's a summer time thing or maybe just a memorial day weekend thing....

I think that they are getting shipped to more places and Costco can now charge more.

Typically things go up during the summer. I'm waiting any day now for the wolly world here in town to go up from $1.96/lb to $2.25/lb....then possibly $2.48/lb. Happens every year.

In the worst case, there are Costcos with no brisket. Like mine :-(

And mine! Only choice flats at over 4 bucks per pound!

Don't move to central Ohio. Cheapest Brisket - $3.49/lb. Select packer from Walmart. 😩 This was the price a month ago. I haven't checked recently.

Got two, the other is exactly 14 pounds. Couple ladies at work each wanted one.

No kidding, you can't find whole briskets around my area unless you are willing to take out a second mortgage on your house and go to a full service butcher.

Yeah Costco is testing their markets for brisket. Ours in orlando finally started carrying them at all. They started at $2.99/lb and a week later went up to $3.49/lb. Still the best option in n my area by far.

In north Ontario here, Costco started carrying brisket...woohoo...now if they'd get some pork belly, it'd be all good.

I picked up two prime briskets at Costco on Friday @ 3.69 lb. Still a good deal but even the butcher had to make a couple of phone calls to verify the price as he brought them from the back. This is the first they have had in a couple of weeks.

Last year my local Costco in Timnath, Colo. started carrying prime brisket and the price varied between $2.59 and $3.19 over the period of July through December. I purchase my first in mid July at $3.19, but never saw it priced over $3.00 for the rest of the year. I hadn't shopped for one in that store since late last year. I was in the store last week and noticed the price was $4.29 or $4.39. YOWZZA! Hopefully the price will drop back to last year's prices before I need another one.

Why is this thread in the Pork section?

I've been thinking... if only 2% of the cows in America qualify to be rated as USDA Prime quality beef, where is Costco getting all of the USDA Prime beef? That grade of high quality beef used to go to high end Steakhouse's almost exclusively. Based on that thought I was also thinking this $2.99 per pound pricing seemed very low and surely it would go up soon. Hopefully this is a seasonal price increase, but if not, $3.49 per pound for Prime grade Briskets is still pretty good.👍

HouseHomey ... this article indicates that only 2% of beef deserves the USDA Prime grade stamp. This is not the only article I've read that made that claim. https://www.thespruce.com/what-is-prime-beef-995266

I just paid $7.99/lb for a choice packer in the northern Virginia area. The costco's around here seem to only have flats.

Breadhead it was at The Organic Butcher of McLean. Whether it was organic or not IDK, the only label of note i saw was the one marked 'choice'.

HawkerXP I have not, I am now planning a trip out there. I'm in 7 corners area so its a bit of a haul.

                  HuskeeRonB thanks both
