I'm smoking in Alexandria, VA, got into it pretty hard a few summers ago and haven't looked back. I started with a small electric, got a bigger electric (Smokin It #3, if you're going electric it's pretty great), and this year I'm graduating to charcoal with a Pit Barrel smoker. I plan on breaking it in with a nice rack of ribs or shoulder just as soon as it arrives. Wish me luck!
We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).
