Great group you guys have going here! Here is our story!

Kell Phelps...and Mr. Ben Quen is our mascot name...
got his start in the barbecue world as a teenager watching and learning from his dad, Joe Phelps, and cook team leader, Dr. "Doc" Donald Gillis. Joe and Doc also started a small printed publication along with their wives, Carlene Phelps and Frances Gillis in 1990. In 2002, Kell, who had always worked behind the scenes with the magazine, took a leap of faith and bought in and became the new publisher. In 2020 the magazine will celebrate 30 years!

Kell is married to Janet Phelps and they work side by side to ensure everyone is getting their constant fill of barbecue. Two children also keep both Kell and Janet on their toes but the entire Phelps crew loves all things barbecue and will continue producing the Barbecue News Magazine as long as YOU are wanting to know what is happening in the BBQ World!

Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner. A 22" Kettle with vortex SnS and OnlyFire pizza oven. A Smokey Joe and the most recent addition a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, ThermoPop and a Thermapen Mk4. Recently added 2 TempSpike wireless meat thermometers.
