I'm new here on the board and new to Qing too. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and I haven't cook a day in my life.
A friend of mine in Ohio has a Green Mountain grill and when I visited him on my way home to Michigan from a motorcycle trip to W-Va I had to have one too. The Pork Butts he was smokin' smelled wonderful!
I'm looking at a GMG Danial Boone model grill and may make the purchase today. Hopr to learn a lot here. Your recommendations in baby-steps will be much appreciated.

Welcome from southeast Michigan! You'll learn a lot here .Get Meatheads book too. It and this site have a wealth of information! Check out the grill and smoker reviews on the free page for tips on buying a cooker. Get what you like and can afford, but don't get the cheapest.
Welcome from Maryland. Glad you are here. I would suggest, if you haven’t already get Meathead’s book. It will get you started right. I would also suggest Henrik’s book "Barbecue. Fire and Smoke" by Henrik Oscarsson. He really breaks down the various parts of BBQ and then brings them together so you will be producing great Q from the start.
And ask some questions here. The people here are both friendly and a wealth of knowledge.

Welcome to the Pit! Before you decide on a cooker ask yourself a few questions. What is the maximum and minimum number of people I would cook for? How often? Charcoal or gas? Do I only want to smoke, roast, grill or all three? Your friend smoking pork butt got you interested. Smoking food takes a long time. Do you want to set it and forget it or attend your cooker for a 12 hour cook? What’s your budget? Answering these questions along with the Amazingribs.com recommendations will help you make a good decision.
I bought a GMG-Danial Boone model. Think I'll be very happy with it. Been reading a lot on Amazingribs(dot)com Didn't see any reviews on the GMG though.
Welcome from Winnipeg. I think LA Pork Butt just suggested some great questions for you to consider. We are all glad to help, and jealous when someone gets a new cooker. Have fun is the main thing.
Thanks all for the welcome and YES, I have been thinking and considering my 'needs' and 'wants' in a smoker.
I liked the Green Mountain Grill- Danial Boone model that my friend in Ohio has. I've been to a couple of dealers and I think settled on the one that will also include either a GMG cover or three bags if GMG pellets. Pellets from my local dealer sells GMG pellets, 3-28lb bags for about $15/bag. I can but the cover for $48 from Amazon but the dealer that I'll buy the grill from will include the cover FREE!
I'm a carnivore at heart so am looking forward to some Good Smokin'! Our son lives right next door and of course he likes the fact that Dad is buying it thinking he will use it too! That's OK, I plan on eating what HE cook too!

Wait a minute Larry the Cruiser, you haven’t been around long enough to know better. But as you progress in your new ravenous hobby, you will learn the ins & outs of MCS (more cooker syndrome). You tell sonny there to keep his hands off. Then have him get his own cooker, only make it different than yours, then the two of you will be able to have twice the fun & yer wives won’t be complaining about to many cookers..........yet. 😎 Welcome aboard, eat good & have fun!
My dealer will give a new buyer two bags of pellets with the GMG smoker,... and another to the fella who sent him there! I'm gonna sucker him in THEN tell him to buy his own!
