Just What You Wanted, Another Hoosier

Just joined after lurking for the past couple of weeks. This has got to be the best, above board forum on the web! Have not seen any impolite remarks since I started reading the various forums. Very much appreciate this kind of online attitude.

I am 68 years old and a retired IT professional who has been a typical griller for most of my adult years. That is, grill the occasional dinner on various Weber charcoal and gas grills over the years. However, just this month I purchased a Vision komado grill from Sam's Club and am thoroughly enjoying it. A whole new world of grilling, or should I say smoking, has entered my life. I kick myself for not investigating these techniques earlier. So far, pretty impressed with the grill. Look forward to future interactions with you all.

Current hobby interests are, of course, grilling, woodworking and amateur astronomy. Not much astronomy any more because I cannot wrestle the telescope out of the house much. Too heavy. Slowly getting back into woodworking following 2 year illness. But, on the upswing now.

    Everyone take care.

Indiana? I've driven through your state many times. Mostly through the northwest corner, when family lived in Michigan and later when I did. Gary, the garden spot of Indiana. Where an 18 wheeler rear ended us last year when we were stopped in construction (fortunately, he just rolled into us while he was on his phone, so he only did about 5 grand of damage to our car.) Your a whopping 4 years older than me. I only got active in posting here myself, after being a member for several years, and I agree, this is a great place to hang out. Lot's to learn, lots of people willing to share what they know without being snotty about it, just a nice atmosphere. And I decided a few years ago life was to short to spend it in places where every time I went there my blood pressure went up. I get that enough in places I have to be.

So...Welcome from Iowa, another place people fly over and drive through!

I know the northwest area quite well. Have a son in Valparaiso. Up there a lot for grandsons' sporting events and just the occasional visit. You are spot on with the description for Gary.

You reminded me, the one time we actually had Indiana as a destination, was when my daughter went there to look at the university in Valparaiso. Imagine my relief when she decided to turn down the scholarship offer which would have still left $25 grand a year for somebody to pay, and instead accepted the full tuition scholarship to a Missouri State University.

I hear ya. My older son went to Valpo law school. He went 1½ semesters and decided law was not something he would enjoy, thank God, and good for him.

Gene WHO? Just kidding. Of course I know ole Geno, good friends. Just kidding again. Believe it or not, the movie Hoosiers was filmed about 10 miles south of West Lafayette, my hometown for 35 years.

Hey, at least they filmed a great movie about HS basketball near you. The movie Twister was filmed just south of me. Flying cows and houses, that's Hardin County,Iowa!

Welcome from Indianapolis. I'm a new guy here too. I really like it here so far. I personally think most Hoosiers are pretty good people. I spent 5 years in West Lafayette attending Purdue Univercity, so that place still kinda feels like home when I go there. The campus and surroundings sure have changed since I was there in the mid 70s.

Thanks for the greeting fellow Boilermaker. My wife and I and our 2 sons are all grads. We are also originally from the Northeast side of Indy.
