I have lived in a condo in Jersey City for the past 11 years and was unable to grill, even electric grills are prohibited from high rise, and low rise buildings. We are looking to move and although my wife has a kazillion items that our new abode MUST have (3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, ranch within a 10 miles circle from work, low taxes, etc., etc.,etc.), I only want a backyard/patio/deck that will allow me to get back to charcoal grilling. I have been reading @meathead's book, looking at recipes I want to try, reading recommendations on stuff to buy and recently joined The Pit.
All that info helps me be at least a sous chef at barbecues we attend.
Pray I get my one requirement on the new abode.
