    Hello, from Somers, NY

    Hello all,

I am really excited to be part of this website. Thanks for having me! I'm a complete newbie, unless you count flipping hot dogs and hamburgers on July 4th. Anyway, I recently told myself, "I'm going to learn how to properly cook a steak," but after numerous dismal results, I knew I needed to do some research. I found this website and read some of the basics. I tried the reverse sear method and had fantastic results! My wife said, "this is really tender, but geez, how much butter did you use?" No butter was used, just salt. I was super excited. Anyway, I currently have an old beat up gas grill, but I just ordered a ThermoPop and I'm probably going to buy a Weber Kettle. I love steak and hope to try smoking a pork butt soon. I look forward to posting my results!

    Mikey

Welcome from Colorado! Stick around and you won't be calling yourself a newbie for very long ...

Welcome to the pit! I started using the reverse sear method after joining (and reading more about it) this site. My steaks were always good but that takes it to the next level. Unfortunately, it revealed my wife's desire for char-crusted dried out hunks of leather. The more tender and juicy the less she liked the steak, clearly her judgment of steak is dreadful and it makes me wonder about her choosing me but that's another story.

I know I've learned a ton here and I'm sure you will too.

Maybe she would like a charred mid steak. Say 142-146°. Just a thought

HouseHomey, Nope. No pink at all. In her world pink = blood and no science is going to change her mind lol.

Well, a passing thought. At least the higher temps gives you more room for char without worrying about overlooking.

Welcome from Western Mass. You made the right choice to learn from the experts, me excluded. I'm attached to their coat tails to expand my knowledge that should translate to better results.

Welcome to The Pit Mikey. The Weber kettle is great for just about any type of outdoor cooking. If you can swing it, I suggest you also get a Slow N Sear. That will up your game a bunch.
