This is my favorite barbecue site. I finally decided to become a member. I spent decades using cheap gas grills that typically latest a few years before needing to be replaced. I few years ago I purchased a first class Weber Summit E-670. I use it regularly, especially during our cold winters. As I became reengaged in grilling, there was something missing. I wanted to "up my game". I received a large Big Green Egg for a Father's Day present a couple years ago. Best present I ever received. Now, I'm looking to pick up a Weber Kettle for tailgating and portability.
Would love to network with other grillers in the Philadelphia area. Are there any BBQ organizations in my area? I haven't found any.
Welcome to The Pit Lenny. Are you only going to be doing short cooks in the Weber? If you plan on doing ribs or butts or even a chuck roast, a Slow N Sear would come in mighty handy.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
Cookers:
Large Big Green Egg with a Ceramic Grill Store rack system, and the SnS setup.
Weber Genesis SA-E-330 LP INDIGO with SS Grates, Weber Crafted frame kit, baking stone, griddle (2/3), all from Ace Hardware.
For the first time in a long time I have no kettles as I gave them all away.
Everything Else:
SnS #3 with certificate. I was their first customer.
Sous Vide equipment.
SnS and Thermoworks instant read and leave-in thermometers.
Grill Grates for BGE.
Kingsford Blue Bag, Weber lighter cubes, Weber charcoal chimneys.
Rubs with salt: Meat Church Holy Cow.
Rubs without salt: Home-mixed versions of previously sold SnS Grills Rocky's Rub and Not Just for Beef using their recipe. SPOG.
Spices: Lots of 'em.
Welcome from Maryland. Unfortunately all I see of Philly these days is the train station or the Hampton Inn near the airport, but you do live in a great city.
Howdy from the other side of the Delaware river on the jersey side. If I’m not mistaken, a group of people gather at the linc every so often. I believe it has something to do with operation bbq relief.
Welcome Lenny. Also from Philly, technically just outside the city line but but lived in for several years and still work down town. I have not searched for any clubs previously but will let you know if I come across any. Otherwise just like Nuke em referenced above there may be plenty of cold weather gatherings for some upcoming football. Heres to hoping that your BBQ skills achieve that of a 2013 Nick Foles, and he just gets close to his performance that year in the next 2 months.
