I got the name from my grandpa. I was always eating wheat bread that my grandma made back then . he (grandpa) and my uncles and my father grilled occasionally fish fries and church gatherings and family reunions, I never really gave smoking/grilling a thought growing up. I use to love fishing and hunt I ran and lift weights. I worked in a restaurant (steak & ale) for a while. then as a welder for e z go textron golf cart company.then joined the marines 1986 - 1992 then went into underwater welding, while underwater got stung by a poisonous fish (I did not know at same time company filed for bankruptcy) I was paralyzed and thought for awhile that I could not do much so I went to college to study pharmacy and medical equipment sales had to drop out after my father passed away to help my mother, anyway I was watching youtube and came across people going to barbecue competitions and others showing you how to smoke and grill. so I said to myself that looks like fun so I found myself watching to see what others were doing. now with my mom full time because of her health (89 yrs old) I m pretty much at home . I needed an outlet so Here I am asking all who will help me start a new adventure, thanks Wheat

Wow! I appreciate you telling your story so freely. This is a great place to hang out and just learn from some really smart people. That's what I do anyhow.
Huntington Beach welcomes you and all the wheat you can bring. While not being sure I'm just going t ask. Are you taking care of your mother and learning to smoke/grill with some type of paralysis? Please forgive me if I iask in poor taste but I'm sure others may have the same question as here in the Pit we read and communicate to learn from each and comprehend. Ok, often to "rib" each other and crack jokes about our cooking too!
Welcome aboard don't forget we love pictures of the cook. Ask away and fire up the cooker!

Wheat, if I had $500 to spend I would get a 22" Weber kettle, a Slow n Sear add-on, and I'd look for a good thermometer with the leftover money. That's my advice.
