    Greetings from Minnesota

Hey everyone. I've been lurking and reading for a while, and I thought that I should introduce myself.

I'm a weekend bbq'er at our cabin in the Wisconsin northwoods, near Hayward. While I've been grilling on a propane grill for several decades, I recently got hooked on low and slow with wood pellets. I started with a Traeger Texas about 5 years ago. The Traeger is on its dying days, so I decided that it's time to upgrade. I have a Yoder YS640, with the competition base, on order. Of course, with our climate, I had to order the blanket for it. :-)

I enjoy all kinds of BBQ, but I'm partial to ribs and pulled pork. My oldest kids (in their 20's) will take as much pulled pork as I can make!

Making good ribs has always been on my bucket list. Back in the day I used to boil ribs (gasp!), but now I can confidently make ribs for guests. This last weekend I tried Meathead's "Last Meal" ribs, and they turned out wonderfully.

I'm loving this site. I like the science and technical stuff. It really helps to demystify things for me.

Thanks to everyone here for all of the great commentary and engagement.
    Rob

I have to say that the scientific/empirical approach of Meathead's book and the site were what drew me in. I'm just always wanting to learn things.

    Welcome!

Welcome to the Pit Bighouse ...👍 First let me say you have a beautiful dog.🤗 It's important to have a companion to sit out by the Pit with. You done good there.

So... you were a rib boiler in your past.😖 Some other Pit members probably did that years ago, but they will never fess up to it usually. Meathead says the terrorist have won when people boil their ribs before bbqing them. That might just be a rumor, I'm not sure.🤔 Obviously you've recovered from that unfortunate decision and are nowing BBQing your ribs properly.👍

You're going to love that Yoder it's a popular Smoker in the Pit and many members will be more than willing to help in anyway possible to get you dialed in on using that cooker.

Have fun in the Pit and don't hesitate to ask questions.👍

Welcome to The Pit, from the Land of Tonka! Great to have another Minnesotan in The Pit. I am guessing you got that YS640 from Tony down at Quetopia? I was in there the other day and he was telling me those YS640's are out until October now! It is great to hear that BBQ is growing in our area. The YS640 is a beast and will have no problems holding temps during our winters.
Great to have you and congrats on the new Pit !

Breadhead Hah..she is a pretty pup, but that is her redeeming quality. She's also stubborn, honery, and a bit dim (although I think she's outsmarting me most of the time). She grabbed a chicken bone out of the trash, and when I tried to grab it out of her mouth, she chomped down, putting me in the ER. :-) She's also eaten all of the grease out of the Traeger grease catcher bucket, leading to major gastro issues. Don't let the pretty face fool you.

Spinaker I ordered my Yoder online at All Things BBQ. I didn't see a local retailer/distributor to support. They told me that the lead time is 16 weeks. I waited that long for our children to be born, but that's about all that I'll wait this long for. :-) I should get it in early November. My wife often gives me grief about my toys, but I got no grief about this. She, and my adult children, love my cooking on the Traeger, and they have no issues with me continuing to cook. I'm really looking forward to learning more and spreading my wings. Doing a big 'ole brisket well is my next goal.
