    Hello from Davis, CA

    Hello from Davis, CA. I used a Big Green Egg for many years but the heat up time frustrated my wife so I bought a Traeger. Big trade off smoke wise. So, I figured I would join to gain some tips and tricks. I'm interested in recipes unique to the Traeger and also add ons to beef up the smoke. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

      Welcome to the Pit! I am still smoking with my Egg. If you use a map touch you can cut the egg startup time significantly. I hit five spots for rwenty seconds each and am ready to grill in 15 minutes.

        Welcome to The Pit, we are happy to have you here! We have quite a few pellet heads in here, so you will be covered. Did you get rid of the BGE when you got the Traeger?!?

                Also, if you are trying to beef up your smoke profile, look at smoke tubes. I know they are popular with many pellet heads. All you need to do is light the pellets in the tube and place it on the grate.

                              Thanks everyone. I did invest in an Amazen smoke tube and will give it a run tomorrow. I did sell the BGE, and may consider again a few years in the future once the kids have flown the coop and wife is more comfortable with maintenance time for the BGE.

                              If anyone has their favorite recipe or two, point me in the right direction for the Traeger. Thanks!
