    Hello from Rockville, Maryland

Hi Everyone. I joined last month, but am just now getting around to introducing myself. I have always enjoyed cooking, but generally left the grilling to my husband. He has bought me a smoker for Christmas, and I am really, really excited about this. So excited, in fact, that I recently purchased a heritage pig (large black hog). I've been advidly reading through a lot of the information on this site and have learned so much. I'm also relieved that not everyone is a pit master so I won't be embarrassed by my almost non-existent knowledge of smoking/grilling. Now, the part that's going to make the majority of you cringe - my smoker is electric, the Cookshack AmeriQue. I agonized over that and a pellet grill, but laziness won out. So if anyone out there has any tips they want to share using an electric smoker, I would be very grateful. By the way, my name is Theresa.

Welcome! That Amerique looks like a pretty high end electric smoker! I didnt know it could get any easier than pellet smoking but looks like you found it! Are you going to have that whole hog butchered? doesnt look like it will fit whole in the cookshack Cheers! Can't wait to see your cooks.

Welcome aboard Theresa! It matters not of one's experience, when you have an army behind you, & some of the greatest minds in Q (there I said it), me definetly being the exception. Most important is that you get on fire, pun intended, & love what your doing. Enjoy the ride!

I guess I tipped my hand as to where I voted. 🙀
I still would like to change my vote.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. It is a small world, Shane. My grandparents owned a farm in Nebraska, so I spent a lot of time there as a child and have a lot of fond memories. And, JGjeske, my son lives in Baltimore. Smokinfatties, the pig won't be butchered until January. My guess is all the butchers are busy with deer right now.
