Hello from the Armpit of Texas

Good Morning everyone, new member here. I live in El Paso and I'd say I'm still a rookie when it comes to smoking. I have a Traeger Texas Elite pellet smoker. I figured it was a good place to start. I've been using it for about 2 years now and it seems to do pretty well considering its not a true hardwood smoker. Maybe one of these days I'll graduate and move up to a really good hardwood smoker. So far I've done a few briskets and some country style pork ribs and numerous baby back ribs also. In a month or so, I'll be smoking my wife her pork butts or shoulders whichever she brings me to do, they will be for her tamales that she makes every year.

I'm hoping to be able to get some good tips and tricks and hints about smoking, I love to smoke meat so I'm hoping this site will be very beneficial. I also hope to be able to contribute in one way or another.

Thanks and have a good one.

Welcome to the Pit. Always interesting which 'armpit' various fellow Texans are from. I'm about as far away from you as I can be and still be in the same state. Amazing to discover that you are closer to Los Angeles, CA than to me! So again, welcome from an Island somewhere near Texas.

If you really want to 'contribute', I send you my shipping address so you can send some tamales this way!

Welcome to the Pit! It sounds like you are on a good path already... what flavor of pellets have you been using in the Traeger?

Got any other cookers? You might already have a 'really good hardwood smoker', and jus' not realize it yet!

There's a lot to be learned here, and I'm sure we can all learn from your experiences, as well, so don't be afraid to share them.

<hint> Pictures, if you have any, of your cooks, etc., are always a fave here! </hint>

Welcome aboard sptrainnut! Boy you had me worried just for a moment, when I read that you would be smoking your wife. Nice finish, with the stuff for her tamales. Love El Paso, spent a little time there in the last century. You WILL learn a lot, & I am confident that there will be some nice contributions from you. Enjoy the ride on the train to Pittville!
