Hi everyone! I'm Derek from Bakersfield, CA, hometown of country legends like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, and almost nothing else that is good. I've always loved eating BBQ but about two years ago I decided to give making it a try. This website was such a tremendous help in those early days that when I discovered the Pitmaster Club it was a no brainer. I am currently cooking on my first generation PBC mostly. Looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning everything I can!

My Dad (rest his soul) went to Bakerfield high school where he played football with Frank Gifford. I lived in Shafter, Ca for a few years when I was very young. I'm thankful we moved to San Diego when I was about 8 years old.👍

I live in Hermosa Beach these days.

There's lots of history in and around Bakersfield. My grandfather was 100% Cherokee Indian from Muskogee, Oklahoma and wound up in Bakersfield as part of the Grapes of Wrath movement. My Dad was 50% Cherokee, I'm 25%. I never met him personally but he went from one drought area to another.😎 It just took a long time for the California drought to surface.🤔
