    Hola Amigos! Pura Vida!

I wanted to drop a quick line to say hello. I am new to the forum and I am a smoker enthusiast. I am originally from San Jose, Costa Rica. Austin, Texas is what my family calls home now. I love to cook and after visiting all the Q places in central Texas I was hooked. I started my journey with a $120 Kingsford side smoker and "graduated' to an Old Country Wrangler model side smoker. That seemed to be the the thickest metal I could find within my budget. Every time I go to smoke something there is a small nuance or lesson to learn. I wanted to join the club and support what the amazing ribs crew does here. Thank you for promoting the art of smoking meat. I know there is a lot of science to all of this but I feel like I am an artist expressing love to others in the best way I know how, BBQ! :-)

Hi and welcome. A quick Google of that wrangler looks nice.

Yeah, to my surprise it's the smoker Aaron Franklin uses on his PBS series. I did not know it at the time I bought it but it's a nice pat in the back to see he approves.

    Thanks for the support!!

I was working in a chicken plant near here, a lot of the workers were from Mexico and Central America, a girl kept asking my name so I jokingly said, "El Guapo." Almost unable to talk from laughter she said, "Noooooo, you no El Guapo." I said, "What???"

I have tried El Jefe also with no luck. I think I watched The Three Amigos 200 times.

One of my all time favorite movies as well. I can assume you know what a plethora is?

    Hola. Bienvenido. Que tal?

I spent some time in beautiful Costa Rica spiffing up my Spanish at the Instituto Internacional Forrester in San Jose a number of years ago. There was plenty of time for getting out and about the countryside, aided and abetted at times by my host (I stayed with a family.). He was about my age and very friendly and funny. We had a great time. Of course, all of the conversation was in Espanol, since he spoke very little English.

You've picked a great place to live. I'm down in Victoria. Believe it or not, two of the top 50 (according to "Texas Monthly") BBQ places are in and near our town.

El Guapo! Welcome to The Pit! I won't insult you with my Spanish! I used to use a smattering of it to keep Spanish Speaking Employees just A little off center trying figure out how much I really knew!

Welcome to The Pit El Guapo! Great to have you here. I enjoyed your intro post, very well said. I wish I could speak the Espanol, but counting to 10 and saying por favor, agua, and cerveza is about my limit. So I could visit a bar and order 10 beers + a glass of water and be fine I suppose.
