Greetings from the Bronx, where I suppose that you would not think to find much BBQ, but the NE section is mostly private houses with patios and yards.
I’ve been into cooking and BBQing all of my adult life. We moved around often in my childhood as my father was civilian Navy, but five of my formative years were in VA, and we’d drive down with our neighbors to N Carolina for BBQ which piqued my interest.
I’ve had many barrel-type grills, some with a side box for wood, and several smokers, currently a cabinet type. Often, I will make a boneless shoulder for pulled pork and a brisket flat in the smoker and use offset heating in the barrel grill for chicken, such as the jerk I made yesterday. We are still using the tremendous amount of wood from a cherry tree that we had to take down, which comes in handy.
