If you have a local craigslist, or the facebook equivalent, you, you can sometimes pick up a Weber Kettle for as low as $20, but $50 to $100 is very doable. If you get one, plan a cook, and we will help you.
Well, a year has gone by & I got my answer, floaters must be doin better. What an undertaking you had with the hunnert people cook! Good fer you that it was a resounding success. It is often said in these parts it’s not necessarily the cooker but who the cookee is. Welcome, eat good @ have fun!

Huskee Maine is a really cool state the ocean and coast is amazing, then the lakes region, and the mountains. The southern coast is beaches and the North more rocky shores. Almost like fjords. My sister has a place in Kennebunk and that is a great place to visit.
We go to Ogunquit every year. Great area. The Marginal Way walk to Perkins Cove is enjoyable. We've done the lobster boat twice. It is a working boat. You go out and they pull up traps. It's very educational. The captain runs about 100 traps. Whereas most run 400. We were supposed to go the week of the 7th Aug. Had to bow out as my wife is having issues with her ankle. There's a lot of walking. So, back to the Cape where walking from hotel to beach is the most we will have to do.
RichieB Ogunquit is really nice. I have not done the Marginal Way but hear it is great. I used to have 8 lobster traps when I lived in Gloucester. My kids loved "Lobster Fishing" pulling the traps to see what we caught. - Have fun on the Cape can't go wrong there.

Welcome to the Pit, Janet. You're going to like coming here because you'll find a friendly, helpful community with no drama (yay for that!).
Many of us found Amazing Ribs site when we wanted to make better smoked meats. Believe it or not, I started out way back in the day with Meathead's recipe for smoking a packer brisket on the gas grill. He had an ingenious way back then of making the smoke last through most of the cook (he has since abandoned that method) but gosh, it made a good brisket. Paired with his Mop Sauce, it was amazing.
But gassers are not a go-to for smoking. Too leaky with respect to smoke, so not enough smoke flavor in the meat.
You've got a good start there, looking at kettles. Once you get a handle on using them (and charcoal) to your liking, you'll be hooked.
Plus you're going to have a lot of fun strolling up that learning curve. Enjoy every minute of it.
