Hello from Massachusetts. I am a former US Navy Photographer, 1972-1976.
I have been grilling forever but smoking since about 2000 when I got a offset New Braunfels. Never did well with it and eventually bought a WSM 22.5, it was too big. I built a WSM mini from a Smokey Joe and a tamale pot and used it until they came out with the WSM 14.5's. This year I sold the 22.5 and bought a second 14.5 a couple weeks ago. I love the 14.5 as I can do 2 9 lb shoulders or 4 racks of ribs (in half) or two large chickens on each one. With just the wife and one son living at home a single 14.5 make more than we can eat. I cook and smoke year round shoveling paths to the gear in the snow.
I had been tempted by the pellet smokers but prefer charcoal and wood chunks. I use a ThermPro gauge and have several smoking videos on my youtube page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouhn2aky0uc&t=14s
I have never done a full packer and now that I am retired and living on Social Security the price will probably keep me away from them.
I love chicken and ribs!
