Welcome from upstate NY. You already got plenty of good advice on cooking hot and fast. One trick I learned from watching Harry Soo is to put a chunk of wood under your briskets (I suppose you could do it with RI s too) so the juices roll off the top. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts and sharing information with you!
