    Free Big Green Egg

THIS ITEM HAS ALREADY BEEN CLAIMED BY A MEMBER

I need to make room on my deck so I am giving away my Large Big Green Egg. You will have to come pick it up at my home in Brookfield, IL. It is heavy and I am not as strong as I once was so it would be great if you could bring a friend. You will need a way to pad it so it doesn’t roll around when you pick it up. Here are the details:

The Big Green Egg Large has an 18-inch grate and sells for $1959. It comes with the Egg Nest (Egg-speak for a stand with wheels), an convEGGtor® (Egg-speak for a ceramic insert that allows for indirect cooking). Here is Max’s review:

The original gasket is shot so I have a replacement ready to go. I also had a ring welded and bought long skewers that allow you to hang meat from them just like an Indian tandoor. I also have two ceramic plates that allow you to set it up in a faux 2-zone configuration. Better still, it has the Slow ‘N Sear®Cooking System insert that allows you to set it up in a true 2-zone configuration. It comes with a stainless steel griddle. More info here
Get the ULTIMATE Slow ‘N Sear® cooking experience by transforming your Large Big Green Egg® Kamado grill into the most versatile outdoor cooking machine on the market – indirect slow cooking, roasting, baking… not to mention a capable smoker and perfect sear with the Slow ‘N Sear®Cooking System for Large Big Green Egg®

Email me at meathead at amazingribs.com if you want it. If more than one person asks for it, the one who has been a member longest will get it.

Well dang. I'm only something like 1200 miles away. This is a great deal for someone in the upper Midwest.

If I were 20 years younger I might consider a road trip...

I’ll be there in 3 days, lol! That’s so awesome, if I was closer I might have since I don’t have a kamado.

so you’re making room for another cooker?

Nah. Just clearing out the cobwebs. Never been a fan of the ggs. I want grills that can be set up in 2 zones easily. I prefer my $300 Weber Kettle

A man who prioritizes his wife above a cooker knows he has a keeper! Nice of you to offer it to the pit!

Hmmm. 12 hours west, 12 hour east. On the one hand, I get to shake your hand and thank you for all you’ve done for us. On the other hand, I don’t need another BGE and would be scooping it from someone who wants one.

The first reason is compelling, but I’m not greedy enough to claim something that someone else would really want.

Geez. I’m only about 90 min away. I want it, don’t need it. S**t. Torn. I have 9 cookers. Is this #10? Thinking…..

9 cookers is a start, but you've got a ways to go son.............................get on it!

Well, this would be a huge upgrade over the Akorn and I am only 45 minutes away. The issue is finding a helper to move it. I suppose I’d have to rent a Lowe’s pickup for $20.

I’m out on this so it’s yours to claim if you want it. Meatheads point on preferring his $300 Weber kettle was the clincher. I love my Performer and will make do with that.

CandySueQ the heaviest piece is the base at 50#ish; it can be lifted easily, but not moved easily, because of the shape and the way the weight is more on the bottom. One person can lift it, if it doesn’t need to be moved, but it would take two people to crab walk it, together, if you wanted to move it any more than a couple feet.

Jfrosty27 I have both a Performer and a LBGE. While they aren’t the same to use, in practice the results are indistinguishable. It’s good to have both if you’re doing a split cook, with both grilling and smoking, or if you need the extra real estate. I find that there are whole seasons where I’ll favor the BGE for everything, and then the next year I’ll favor the Weber!

These things are heavy, but no single piece is unmanageable. If you take it all apart one person can lift it, walk it up a set of stairs, etc. The base is the heaviest part at around 50#; but it’s unwieldy. You can take it all apart and tie down the base and lid in the back of an SUV easily.

Yeah... that is the approach I would take. I sure would be hesitant to put it in the back of my pickup truck. Unless you are really good with tie downs, too much risk of it sliding around, toppling over, and getting home with a truck full of ceramic shards...
