Family was into wine collecting and drinking - both my father and uncle had modest cellars. During college I got a job in a liquor store and just started tasting everything and eventually got to find my likes and dislikes

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
There is a winery near Texas A&M, I'd go for the tour and tasting a couple of times a year so I learned a lot about the wines and how they were made. The tastings taught me about tannins, dry vs. sweet, etc and I preferred the dry oaked reds although I like some whites as well. I also love Port.Last edited by 58limited; May 29, 2022, 10:36 AM.

Have you ever visited The Republic there at A&M?

Ah, I thought you might live there. A friend I went to high school with is the executive chef there, also part of the Primrose restaurant there. High end steak house, with a killer wine and bourbon selection.Last edited by barelfly; May 29, 2022, 10:28 AM.

Can't even look at MD2020.It was our senior year, 1974. There was a party and somebody brought MD2020, short story, a girl I had a crush on dared me that if I drank the whole bottle over the course of the night she would go out with me. That the last thing I remembered that night. There was lots of puking and hallucinating before I came out of it the next day by mid afternoon. She really felt sorry and did go out with me and stayed together until after senior prom when I went to college.

My wife calls me "Teddy" and I call her "Princess" and that's where "mrteddyprincess" comes from.
The year was 1999 and I had my first summer off looking after my infant daughter. I was desperate for hobbies that did not cost a lot of money. I checked out all the books from the library on winemaking. I used equipment I already had and mixed up a few one gallon batches. I was hooked and over the course of several years I had a 20 gallon capacity at one point in making wine.
I have made dandelion, watermelon, strawberry, blueberry, mead, tomato, apple, apricot, grape Kool-Aid, and Concord wines among many.
At one point my camping buddies would drink many beers and then taste my wine before they went to bed. They'd all wake up the next morning telling me how knocked out they were and they started calling my apple wine "date ra#$" wine. That stuck for years. :-)
At this point I drink wine. Northing sweet. Dry only. Red, white, pink, yellow, you name it and I'm a fan. I can drink anything from Franzia in a box to the nice Napa Valley wines we get at a local winery here in Fishers.
My doctor told me to stay hydrated. I figure wine is about 88% water, so that fits the bill... :-)

My favorite wine is sparkling, Schramsberg Brut Rose is my very favorite followed by Perrier Jouet Champagne Brut. It's best on an empty stomach which fits nicely with my MO to day drink stopping by 3 at the latest. Got to pull it together for dinner and bed time after all. Red wine was my go to for years but I don't tolerate it as well now that I'm getting older.

I didn't. I choke down a flute or two of DomP. Each year at valentines, anniversary, and her birthday. Chase it with scotch or bourbon. Only do it to get to what happens after...

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I like wine enough. But I’m not an overly social person, and Mrs Mosca, while not a teetotaler, drinks rarely, so I don’t open a wine bottle all that often because I’m usually alone, and I won’t finish it and it will go to waste.
But, I can have a 12oz or 16oz beer and it’s all good. So, I mostly drink beer.

My wine preferences begin and end at the price point. Longer ago i was invited to a friend's fancy wine tasting party. Most of the attendees were wine afficandoes, I am more of a bourbon man but enjoy wine with a meal. Long story short after tasting some really expensive wine that night i realized my palate wasn't refined enough to really enjoy or even tell the difference between a $10 bottle and a $300 bottle. So i have found a handful of wines (reds, whites, blends) around that $10 price that i enjoy and doesn't break the bank. On the other hand i have more experience with Bourbon and can definitely enjoy a pricier bottle on occasion.Last edited by Sam6687; May 26, 2022, 11:59 AM.

Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
It started for me at about 14 and a pint of Thunderbird. Seriously, 1st not a wine snob. I'm cheap and don't pay more than $20 for a bottle and that's rare. I have been a member of wine clubs. Stopped that. Did go to Napa/Sonoma in 07'. I would love to go back. I purchased 90% of my wine online via Wine Insiders. Just got a delivery yesterday. I enjoy dry reds with beef and whites with pork and chicken and dry Riesling is a favorite for spicy foods as well as ports for the sweet side along with some chocolate.
I started enjoying wine a long time ago. I took a couple of online classes which included wine tastings. Where you sign up they send you the wine for the session and the leader walks you through the wines and tasting. That and beer are it for me. I do enjoy bourbon occasionally. Haven't bought a bottle since the holidays.
Doing a steak and potato tonight along with a nice Zinfandel.

I have an exceptionally stupid story here.
When I started dating the girl that I would go on to marry, we went out to a lot of restaurants, and so I ordered wine to impress. Developed the taste, learned what I like, discovered that I have a good palate, impress folks all the time with my knowledge of Sonoma County AVAs and certain varietals and their growing regions (seriously, had several people think I was a somm at a wine event due to my knowledge of vintages, soils and such for pinot noir in Sonoma/Napa/Willamette, which really arose out of being picky). But it all started because it felt like an adult thing to do while dating this girl.

Kinda along the same story, take a girl out to a swanky eatery and order a bottle of wine.
Waiter comes back and pours a bit into the glass and waits for me to sample and approve the wine.
You know, do the nose test, the swish test, the taste test.
The waiter is grinning from ear to ear, he knows I'm an idiot who wouldn't know a good wine from a kick in the arse.
I had no clue so dropped it like a depth charge and gave it my blessing.
No wedding bells....one date only.
