I know this is probably a topic that comes up frequently but I’m just curious. What are your favorite blanco tequilas for margaritas? Reposado tequilas?
Here are mine:
Blanco: Milagro, Olmeca Altos, Espolon, Lunazul, Casa Noble
Reposado: Milagro is honestly the only one I have tried and it was pretty darn good

Either Casa Noble or Patron silver. Anything better in a margarita is a waste of money.
Now for anejo or extra anejo I received a bottle of Avión Reserva 44 Extra Añejo for a present last year and have been sipping on it all year. smooth as silk.
Sipping: Milagro Select Reserve (blanco), Milagro Repasado. We picked up an almond tequila in Mexico a dozen or so years ago... Crema de Almendado.
Margarita: Cabo Wabo Repasado (Grand Marnier, 1/2 mix, 1/2 fresh sqeezed lime juice, on the rocks, salted rim)
I have had the Casamigos in a few margaritas as well, not bad. We've put a few bottles of Patron through the shaker as well, but mostly shooters.
I will probably be looked down upon for saying this, but dont waste your money on premium tequila for margaritas. It's a mixed fruit drink. Put the emphasis on the fresh ingredients. Now dont use cheap tequila either. Same applies to all mixed fruit drinks.
I disagree. My philosophy is: Don't waste your money on anejo or reposado for margaritas, but nasty bottom shelf tequila will ruin your margarita. But that's just my personal take. If you like it that way, that's cool.
Don't want to hijack this thread, but it would be great if you could include your favorite margarita recipe along with your favorite tequila. Hope you don't mind ColonialDawg
I follow ColonialDawg 's recipe with one exception. I make my own simple syrup with the zest of 2 limes in it. I substitute it for the agave syrup. But fresh lime juice is a must. Enjoy!
I'm not much of a tequila drinker. I guess the only time I drink it is in a margaritta. I usually just buy Jose. I've been told to consider purchasing some higher quality for sipping, but keep getting stuck on the bourbon aisle and find a new one of those to try....
I would not use even moderately priced tequila in a margarita, but there are plenty of lower priced ones out there. Go with the Kirkland brand. If you can find it, Gran Centenario makes a very low priced, very good tequila that I typically break out for guests with an unknowing palette.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I'm just learning tequila, but the wife & I are fans of 1800. Their blanco for margs, and the reposado & anjeo for sipping. The aged ones (to me) are sip-worthy without breaking the bank.
There is a whole other world to tequila beyond 1800 which is just blah IMO. I am kind of a tequila snob but there are a good number of tequilas in the $30-$50 range that will knock your socks off. As with anything you get what you pay for. Check out tequila.net for reviews on good tequilas and go check out your local liquor store. I would try one of the larger stores such as Total Wine, BevMO, or equivalent for a good selection.
Mr. Burns I know exactly what you mean, I feel that way about bourbon and Scotch, when I read folks say that they like a certain brand, I kind of chuckle to myself and think "that's all they know". And I recognize that my experience with tequila is extremely limited and there are likely much better options out there. But for the time being with my lack of experience 1800 is pretty good tequila and widely available. Thanks for the refernces!
also, I've been ordering some tasting kits from Flaviar w/ tequila and mezcal, with the hopes that my wife and I can expand our horizons with them. I can't wait to discover all the good stuff out there!
