I haven’t been particularly active over the last 9 months or so. But I do check in periodically. And I’m continuously learning even from the most obscure posts. Hats off to yakima for posting about an out of print cookbook focused on the cuisine of SW France. I ended up buying that cookbook bc the thread was so interesting. There are many passages about Armagnac - a type of brandy. I went looking for it. The big local liquor store by me only had one bottle for $35. It was pretty disappointing. Couple days ago I was in Central Jersey and came across an excellent wine store. They carried many more expensive Armagnacs. I decided to try a $70 bottle. This was so good. I get it now. This is as delicious as some of my favorite bourbons. I’d never have thought I’d love it bc I’ve had a number of famous Cognacs and thought “Eh…not really my bag.” But this Armagnac is totally different. Anyway, thanks The Pit for always educating me.

Very cool! There's a brandy in northern MI at a winery my wife & I frequent, it's grape brandy. Looks like bourbon, sorta tastes like a gentle 80 proof smooth bourbon. Can't tell it's grape at all! There's a whole world of spirits beyond bourbon & Scotch, but so little time...
