    Show us your Rum collection

I’ve emptied a few that I need to re add. But here is my current selection

the Plantation XO, Plantation Isle of Figi, the Zacapa, and the Bacardi 10 are my treats, Mount Gay, and Plantation Dark are good sippers, the Plantation 3 star and the Bumbu are mixers. I have about 4 more to add this summer. Generally I have an Appleton Estate signature blend for a mid level, will need to add that one back in, soon. I have a few more higher ends I want to add this year as well.

The total surprise bottle out of this line up, was the Plantation Isle of Figi. Incredibly smooth, very much a whiskey or sherry cask scotch drinkers, rum.

I’m no rum aficionado but I enjoy some Zacapa

Me too. It’s the only high end one I know to buy

Between Richard and Attjack - I’ve quickly learned either Zacapa or Plantation are good

JCBBQ barelfly I think Zacapa is why I stopped my search for “the one”. It hit everything I was looking for and for some reason I never had FOMO like with bourbon. I’m good 🥃

I'm a bourbon and scotch drinker, but I do keep a bottle on hand. I just finished the Zapaca 23 in a Mojito, for the Missus.
The one on left is a pick that was finished in ex-bourbon casks, of course

I don’t have a spirits collection of any kind, neither of us drink much.

But I do enjoy rum, and we make a rum cake every holiday season. Having done this for about 15 years, I’ve found that (contrary to what people say) the quality of the rum makes a big difference in the final product.

The one on the left, Golden Plough Tavern, is strong, 100 proof, and complex, buttery and full of molasses. The one on the left, Gates House, is 80 proof and light and sugary, like alcoholic cotton candy. The one I prefer is the one I happen to be drinking at the moment, they are different enough that they can’t be compared.

I could not agree more. Don't skimp on the quality of ingredients when cooking and baking.

I don’t have any on hand right now, but if I did it would probably be Whalers Vanille.

My weekly cigar and spirit pairing.

this is a zacapa 23. I’m learning, that the world of rum connoisseur‘s, do not favor the Zacapa or Plantation blends, both of which I have.

the claims are that those two brands, specifically, adjust their flavor with added sugars and spices, several reviews I have read over the week, talk about the hydrometer testing, as the source. Also, Plantation, seems to possibly not even distill their own spirits, rather they buy and then mix their own, some early reading says those reviewers are correct. Lot’s of hidden data from several distilleries on what’s all in the bottle.

I will leave my views neutral until I get a chance to sample what is considered a better rum, vs. this and others in my line up.

This will be a truly educational thread for me! I know nothing about rum and….sadly, may have what is a laughable bottle or two of rum in my cabinet! So, will enjoy what everyone posts here! Great topic, Richard!

And here it is. Laughable…at best! Rum is just not something I drink, either does my wife. These are actually in our lake box to take to the house for summer drinks.

although the Cruzan rum, does provide great memories from our trip to the USVI where I officiated my best friend’s wedding!

                Spicy Coconut Daiquiri

                2 oz coconut rum
                1 oz lime juice
                .5 oz rich simple syrup
                3 small chilis

Muddle the chilis in the simple syrup in the bottom of a shaker.
Add the rest of the ingredients and shake.
Double strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a chili or a lime wheel.

Oh that daiquiri is perfect! I do have chile bitters at the lake house as well, not sure if that would work. But this will be a great drink!!

                Thank you Attjack !

I keep Thai chilis in the freezer and muddle them directly out of there. I need to get myself some chili bitters!

In hoping to continue this, my new bottle of Rum for the month of July.

incredibly smooth, and very different from their entry level offering, which is ok, but not like this.

Excellent rum, Mt. Gay XO is a fine sipping rum. Just had a glass of the XO while on vacation. This will make it to the stash list.

My weekly cigar and rum pour. I’ve come to like a few others better than this bottle, and still not in love with hidden added sugar. Still a quality pour for widely available rum, it will be another month or so before it rotates back again. The cigar is fantastic, I will buy a box of these at some point,

That was the rum that made me decide rum was for more than coconut flavored drinks that table dancing sorority girls sip.

Man you guys are lightweights! But I do grow sugar cane so I’m partial to the rum!
