Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Like tequila (or any liquor really) it can be wonderful or meh. Fancy labels mean very little. I've never personally had this one so I can't comment beyond this.

I had a mezcal margarita a few weeks ago and couldn’t do it! Just too Smokey for my liking. My wife…ha! She drank her Tequila margarita and mine! She said it was Smokey and not sure if she would always go with mezcal but said it was something different.
We’ve got a place in town that makes great mezcal cocktails. I prefer mezcals that aren’t overly smoky. I really started enjoying mezcal after finding an amazing mezcaleria while on vacation in Mexico.
I gotta say, this is not my favorite. It has too much spicy and almost peppery type hit. I bought some 1800 regular silver tequila to see if that is more my taste. I really like the Costco silver tequila so maybe that is what works for me.
I agree with most posters that the Mezcal is an acquired taste to be used judiciously. It can taste like you are drinking liquid smoke. My wife loves it. For those that prefer straight Tequila but still want a 'bit' of smoky flavor, use a hickory smoked salt on the rim of your 'rita glass.
