    Bought My First Mezcal

What I am in for here?

    https://www.binnys.com/spirits/tequi...-mezcal-958854

Smoked sea salt, pork shoulder, and hickory smoke all sounded great to me.

First question is glass or plastic bottle? LOL There is good mezcal out there but it can be rotgut. The binnys link isn’t working for me.

Like tequila (or any liquor really) it can be wonderful or meh. Fancy labels mean very little. I've never personally had this one so I can't comment beyond this.

Ain’t it the bomb? Makes a great Margarita with hickory smoked salt on the rim.

I had a mezcal margarita a few weeks ago and couldn’t do it! Just too Smokey for my liking. My wife…ha! She drank her Tequila margarita and mine! She said it was Smokey and not sure if she would always go with mezcal but said it was something different.

That happy worm in the bottom of the bottle of Mezcal tastes so good.

We’ve got a place in town that makes great mezcal cocktails. I prefer mezcals that aren’t overly smoky. I really started enjoying mezcal after finding an amazing mezcaleria while on vacation in Mexico.

I gotta say, this is not my favorite. It has too much spicy and almost peppery type hit. I bought some 1800 regular silver tequila to see if that is more my taste. I really like the Costco silver tequila so maybe that is what works for me.

Mezcal is great when you’re up for something smoky - which isn’t every time I drink tequila. But it definitely has its place.

That Costco silver tequila is outstanding. Better than Patron silver green label, IMHO. That’s what we keep as our “house tequila.”

I really like peaty smokey whisky like Ardbeg so it is a bit strange I guess.

Word to the wise - tip the bottle up, let the worm sink to the bottom then swallow it.

Whoops, bachelor party flashback. Carry on

I agree with most posters that the Mezcal is an acquired taste to be used judiciously. It can taste like you are drinking liquid smoke. My wife loves it. For those that prefer straight Tequila but still want a 'bit' of smoky flavor, use a hickory smoked salt on the rim of your 'rita glass.
