Buffalo Trace Distillery fills its 9 millionth barrel since Prohibition

Buffalo Trace Distillery has plenty of reasons to celebrate.

“We celebrate the nine millionth barrel coming out of this distillery since prohibition,” said Tyler Adams, homeplace manager of Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Through the years, Buffalo Trace has established itself as a popular stop along Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail. Just less than three years ago, the distillery celebrated its eight millionth barrel. Since then, the distillery has completed a $1.2 billion expansion project, helping pave the way for another milestone. However, while Buffalo Trace officials say they may have grown larger, they insist that one thing has remained the same - their commitment to bourbon.

“We’ve been doing the same thing here for over two hundred years and it takes a lot of to get that done. So, we are literally standing on the shoulders of those when we fill these barrels,” said Harlen Wheatley, the master distiller of Buffalo Trace.

9 million barrels and you can hardly find a single bottle anywhere, and if you do it’s 2-3x MSRP!

but, pretty cool achievement for the BT brand! Thanks for sharing this article!

How many barrels have been consumed by Pit members, I wonder?

How do you think they were able to accomplish this?

Good achievement and well earned. Until recently it has been hard to find their bottled product readily on the shelves in some markets. But, as has been noted in multiple "news" pieces, bourbon sales have been on the decline for a year or two. Supposedly the younger generations are turning away from alcohol.....probably moving to the growing THC etc. market. I see BT bourbons on the shelf at realistic prices on a regular basis now, and the other day one purveyor was offing a deal on a six pack. Times be changin'.

          Great.
Now they'll empty that barrel and label them as a "special release" and jack up the price.

Buffalo Trace and I are friends. Switched to Knob Creek last year for my house bourbon, but I’ll still grab a BT if I’m out. Similar flavor profile, but a little smoother to me.

Just realized another thing I miss about CA…Costco sold booze! Going to a state liquor store in TN doesn’t provide the same value - a fifth goes for about the same price as a handle did at Costco!
