I agree about Mcalister's Deli tea, it's very good. Back in the day, only sweet tea was available in SC. Now I drink Arizona Tea because it easy and available in the stores.

Years ago - probably 25 or so - I used to make sun tea. I can't remember how long I left it out. I think I got the basic method from Paula Deen. It was pretty good. Now days I like Duncan Donuts sweet tea, but I don't drink it very often.

I grew up drinking sun tea in IL but now I prefer to brew it in the fridge per this SE technique:

This is exactly what we do, we punted on using the Sun years ago. We use three 2-quart pitchers, put in 4 large tea bags, let steep on the counter for a few hours, then into the fridge. With 3 pitchers we always have a full one backing up the active one, with the third in the dishwasher, and just keep cycling that way.

We make sun tea here. I have tried sweet tea during my travels in the South and it's definitely not my cup of tea. Guess it is something that you acquire a taste for.

I see what you did there I'm the same - unsweet all the way. Sweet tea is ridiculously sweet, and I am just not a sweet-drink kinda guy.

I love tea and I adore iced tea! For simplicity sake, I do a pitcher of Lipton Cold Brew before bed. I wake up and have cold tea, no ice needed. I’m team unsweetened tea. No flavors either (tropical, peach, mango are no-gos for me). When I do brew fresh or do sun tea, Luzianne all day! Actually, the only time I do sweet tea is for sweet tea brined fried chicken.

The Missus makes it by the gallon.....with 8 standard Lipton Tea bags. I think she lets the water come to a boil, tosses in the bags....lets it steep for 15-20 minutes.....stirs in some sugar while it's still warm. Chick Fil A makes a mean sweet tea too..

Things I learned about tea, while living in Jackson, Mississippi.

                1) There is only one kind of tea - Sweat Tea. You can order "unsweet" but you might as well order your steak well done, or your ribs boiled.

                2) Red Diamond is the preferred brand of tea. Period. End of list. There is no second place.
Red Diamond makes small bags, but getting the larger bags - which are for brewing a pitchers worth - is the way to go.

                3) You have to brew the tea and add the sugar while the water is still HOT. It needs to disolve as much as possible. This will lead to a sweet tea addiction, and most likely dia-beet-us.
Even as a morning adverse college student, with no classes before 11am, I found myself waking up at 7:30, just to go to the cafeteria to drink about a half gallon of tea in the morning. Realized I had a problem.

Bourbon & Mint Tea & a sugar cube makes a nice rink for summer evenings!

                  Mimi's (Mom) sun tea

1 galon water in a glass jar
                  5 big Luzianne tea bags
                  1 cup Dixie Crystal sugar

Drop tea bags in jar and screw on lid. Set in full sun at 1500 if in the spring or fall; if summer time 1600. Bring in at 1800 and fish out the tea bags. Stir in sugar while still warm. Cool and serve over ice.
