BBQ & Bourbon - what pairs best?

Currently watching this video on YouTube - Meat Church, which, is one of my favorite rub makers, posted this video today, as he partnered with a distiller from Pursuit Spirits. I don’t think I’ve seen a video or info on BBQ and bourbon - it’s always been BBQ and beer. Thought some may enjoy this video, although I’m sure we all have our favorites for sipping and mixing when it comes to our BBQ!

Honestly I consider myself a bourbon/rye fanatic, collector, connoisseur, etc, and a Scotch appreciator. And I don't like whiskey with BBQ. Too much competition to me, too much boldness at once to be pleasurable. I like a bold red wine with BBQ, yes! I like bourbon either before or after food, rarely ever with. Elijah Craig is a wonderful fairly-budget bourbon though, IMO.

Edit: Some kick butt bourbons from Elijah Craig are their Toasted Barrel (run to get that if it's in stock anywhere) and their Barrel Proof.

barelfly Cool! Mine is B522. I scored 2 of them, but one's gone. I thought they were great. What's fun is being able to do a side by side with 2 different ones, but not a necessary luxury. It is great stuff.

I recently had someone send me 5 samples of stuff I can’t find, but have things similar to or from same distillery and I’ve done the side by sides as well and have enjoyed comparing each. Weller 12, Old Forester Single Barrel, Knob Creek 18, Russell’s Reserve 13 and Sagamore Rye Px Sherry - Weller 12 with SR, OF with 1920, KC18 with KC12 and KC9 SB thus far. The RR13 will be with RR10 and Single Barrel. It’s a fun way to sip

I also picked up a EC Toasted Barrel a few weeks back. U try this?

barelfly Yes, it is simply wonderful, I added that to my post above, must've been about the time you were making your comment. One time I went 90 miles away searching for it hitting each big box grocery store (Meijer) that was supposed to have it. Only found 2 out of searching 5 Meijers.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I'm bretty big on bourbon and scotch. That said, drink the neck and shoulders off a bottle and everything taste good.

You're only picky with your first 3 glasses.

After finishing the video, I liked what the gentleman had to say about pairing types of bourbon with various meats, based on mash bill. It was an informative video, and not just a sales pitch for their brand of stuff.
