Like many of you I like making all of my own things. And those who know me know I like weird and out of the box things. I’m not sure if it’s my algorithm or is I’m just that into weird things but I’ve been getting a lot of videos about Brazilian lemonade and switchel. Both have many influencers claiming they are the best summer drink so I decided to put it to the test myself.
Brazilian lemonade:
1 cup water
1 sliced lime
2 tbsp condensed milk
mix all together and pulse it a good 5 or 6 times. Pour through sieve over ice.
it’s nice and simple. Very lime forward with a nice creaminess but isn’t overly thick. I’ll probably try zest next time instead of blending the entire rind. It was a tad bitter, but I think I can dial that in. Overall I’d say 7/10
Switchel:
switchel was popular with colonial farmers back in the 17th century. They would mix up jugs and bring it in the field with them to stay hydrated during hot summer days.
1 cup water
2tbsp ACV
4tsp honey
1/8tsp ginger powder
mix all together in a cup of ice. The honey might take a few mins to dissolve.
this one is wonderfully refreshing. A slight tang from the ACV but it’s balanced by the cool heat of the ginger and the sweetness from the honey. I truly don’t understand how this isn’t more popular. It’s definitely hitting the spot on this nearly 90 degree day. 9/10
Today’s winner is easily switchel. It’s a far more simple drink to pull off with little to no batch testing needed. I think Brazilian lemonade has a huge upside, but it’s going to take a few trails to dial in.
